They were crazy in Halo: CE
Not too great but fun to use in Halo 2
Pretty bad in Halo 3 unless dual wielded
I can’t remember pistols in Halo 4, honestly didn’t like the game itself
I think they’re a bit annoying in Halo 5 they might as well be a primary weapon
Honestly, I think Halo Reach had the best pistols when it came to being balanced but I want to hear all your opinions
It ties into how I feel about rifles: We only need one or two at the most. Any more than that creates redundancy and makes the spawn weapon more and more worthless in comparison.
I prefer the aesthetic feeling of having a powerful pistol for a spawn weapon, but they could use the model of a DMR instead and I’d still be fine with it. So long as we only have one defined utility rifle/pistol, and not like six of them.
Pistols being shoehorned into the game as weak “finisher” weapons doesn’t benefit the game in any way. If you’re going to do that then don’t even bother adding them.
halo 5 has the most well rounded magnum. many will disagree but it’s the only pistol that hasn’t been overpowered (CE) or completely useless (H3). it’s a 5sk and at mid range it gives you a fighting chance against a BR, but at close range it’s easily out gunned by the AR. it falls right in the middle and as long as you can focus and land your shots instead of just spamming shots… you’ll do fine.
I like where the pistol is at now. It’s a precision counter to the AR close and mid range and can hang with a mid range BR (but will get beaten by a skilled BR user). I think the pistol-AR start makes sure players are never completely out of luck against a winning team.
I like Reach pistol as well but I feel like the pistol fits better in the sandbox for H5.

I disagree. I don’t find the weapons redundant. They overlap, for sure, but they each have specific strengths and weaknesses. I think this creates good strategy for picking your battles and what you carry.

Halo 5 has the best weapon balancing I have seen yet. I have to agree. It’s all situational combined with your skill on precision weapons.
Think Halo 5s pistol is the most perfectly balanced loadout weapon in any FPS that I’ve played. It’s one of the top 3 things I really like about the game.
Halo CE’s was great- it killed very fast but the tradeoff was it was tough to use, because it had little aim assist and magnetism and you had to lead your targets.
Halo 2’s pistol was fun, as it fired about twice as fast as Halo CE’s, but it strangely glitched; if you played on Standard Screen ratio, it killed in 8 shots, but if you were in Widescreen, it took 14. Dual wielded in widescreen, it was slightly above average, but dual-wielded in Standard, it was an absolute monster and was so much fun. It had the added benefit of being hitscan, so it was far easier to land shots with than CE.
Halo 3’s magnum was about as tough to use as Halo CE’s, but with a slower rate of fire and more shots to kill and a smaller clip, it really sucked unless dual wielded, then it could kill about as fast as a Battle Rifle.
Reach’s magnum was alright, but other precision weapons killed faster as they were more accurate. Though at near melee range, the pistol was great because you could quickly fire four shots then melee. It was good until you picked up a DMR or Needle Rifle, which both outclassed it strongly except for point-blank range.
Halo 4’s magnum was not worth using unless your primary was out of ammo and you could get a quick headshot finisher. It was the only gun in the game with bloom, and it took 6 shots out of its 8 shot clip to kill. You were better off with literally any other secondary or primary if you chose the Firepower mod.
Halo 5’s magnum is perfect. It can compete with precision weapons and it’s viable for use in almost any situation, though the rifles are better once you pick them up.
I like 5’s the most, and then dual-wielding Halo 2’s second.
The magnum was pretty much at it’s best in CE and Reach. 4 was similar to Reach’s, but something felt off about. And the rest just kinda fall in place, with Halo 3’s useless metal super slow-mo turtle guns (which would work better as boomerangs) being dead last.
The only real issue I have with 5’s pistol is that the iron sight is distracting when shooting at range. Otherwise, it’s one of the better ones. Certainly beefed up from the beta’s.
I love the h5 magnum, and I love it as the starting weapon. I always push for BR or dmr, but that pistol is fantastic IMO. I don’t think it needs a nerf or buff. I’d be happy if it stayed the same.
They made the H5 pistol the hardest weapon to use in the game against the strongest autos close to mid-range and the easiest to use precision weapons. If your opponent has thumbs, the best you can do is trade, but you have to get a perfect kill to do that. The pistol either needs a buff to a 4sk or a slightly increased rate of fire. Currently, it’s not the most perfectly balanced game as others have put it.

The first halo and reach were the best issue for the Magnum in my opinion. I like them they work well nice fire power accurate, rate of fire and reload decent. makes for agood back up weapon also like the plasma pistol but not in Halo 5, it charge seems to small.
