How do you go from onyx 1800 level to champion?

It’s pretty blunt but I’ve heard that simply studying the map and gaining halo gaming experience isn’t enough to notice decent improvement once you are onyx 1800+.

Some say that to improve any further you would have to master “advanced” tricks like ninjaing, crazy thrust strafes, and whipping the sniper shot.

i do all of these things when I play but I don’t think I have completely mastered them.

if my goal is to get better is 8 hours a week of playing halo 5 consistently enough to notice improvement?

or do I have to go out of my way to try very hard on covering my weak points?

I lile playing for fun and generally play warzone, I have 2.2k/d and as much assists as I have deaths.

I hope I don’t have to treat halo 5 like school and try my hardest to obsessively focus on improving tiny things.

ive watched champions play and I have killed them many times, but they on average kill me like 2 out of 3 times when I get into a fair 1 on 1, I struggle to see the difference beetween our skills what he does better than me. Becouse watching myself play is seemingly exactly the same as watching the champ play.

deep inside I hope just playing the game 8 hours a week will be enough for me.

please post your opinions.

Can’t exactly tell you what to do to improve since I’m in a bit of a struggle myself against higher onyx/champs, but one thing I’ve noticed champs compared to us plebs is their reaction time to map movement and flanking. They consistently know where you are and how you’re gonna push and get into an already advantageous position.

I don’t play this game much anymore because of my grown up work schedule, but I played H2 and H3 competitively. The best advice I can give to a young kid that wants to get better is this:

  1. Watch pro gameplay. You will pick up lots of tricks you never thought about. Different ways to run around a map, different ways to encounter 1v1 battles, different grenade throws, how to use certain objects for cover, etc…

  2. Fight for every death. Basically, don’t just play this game running around blindly. Actually reflect after every death and every game. Evaluate how and why you just died, and think what could I have done to get a better outcome. Without this key reflection, you are capping your skill level right here.

  3. The mistake a lot of people in your shoes make is this: they are too worried about losing their rank so they hesitate to go into matchmaking in fear of hurting their K/D or level. Don’t be afraid. You might lower your level for a couple seasons, but playing more competitive games even if you have to go in by yourself pays off greatly in the end.
