I don’t think this means load outs similar to what Reach and Halo 4 had, I believe the terms was being used to describe the current weapons you have / spawn with / can swap out. You always have a starting loadout at the beginning of a mission.
Excited for some of the other aspects though - falling / pushing things off the ring, the day/night experiences and phantoms with searchlights, the eclipse. Campaign is sounding really strong

Entirely agree. The Load out mention was specifically when talking about campaign. They’ve been entirely clear from the start that even starts are seen as core to halo’s MP DNA.

- Audio logs returning was already all but confirmed from the Inside infinite blog and I’m very excited about it - The falling off the edge of the ring is absolutely brilliant. I’m loving that. - Weapon variants is interesting and we’ll see how that goes. Again my understanding of that was that it was mostly campaign related. Obviosuly being in the sandbox they can be made available in MP too and given Quinn’s previous comments about the sandbox it’s clear they have a vision to keep the sandbox clean without too much overlapping - Wildlife not being hostile is probably good. - The stuff about no cutscenes but in-engine renders was excellent. No more of the Witner Contingency style yoink of all your weapons away.Dual-wielding I’m entirely not bothered about and support the decision. It causes so many issues in the sandbox and balancing. Is a single dual-wield weapon worth 0.5 of a single hold weapon, 0.6, 0.7? How high to you make an accuracy penalty? Is Plasma Pistol/Sidekick going to become the new meta with it? It’s cool sure, but we haven’t had it since Halo 3 and it just leads to a very messy balancing situation so i think not pursuing it is the right thing to do, even though it was ‘cool’
The Elites conversation has and will be done to death everywhere. I get it, people are disappointed. I am too, but likewise they’ve not said ‘never’ - for now I’m just taking it as ‘not at launch’ and frankly I’m okay with that and support the decision. Designing two very different player models for MP is literally close to doubling your work (especially given the different movement animation for an Elite) and the coming up with all the customisation to make that meaningful (a discussion that we are seeing in MCC right now about uneven distribution of options).
I feel about the same about Infinite, which is to day, greatly concerned. Most of the stuff that 343 talked about are neat… But not major innovations that are new to gaming and something to get super excited about. Most of the mechanics revealed are either common place or in Most major RPGs, and more involved and in-depth than they revealed.
It felt like they were going for the softball questions instead of the questions that I think would have assuaged some of my concerns over Infinite. Like, how does 343 plan on protecting the game from hackers as its a free to play game and the cost of entry is literally zero. What about the coating system? How much is paid, and how much can we earn? Does this also apply to armor customization? Further, what multiplayer game modes can we expect at launch? Total number of maps? Classic style vs 343-style multiplayer? There are so many more important things to know about than what feels like incredibly basic, easy questions, some of which we could have easily speculated on to know the answer to.
Also, no playable Elites is a very bad sign to me. It indicates that 343 is, once again, not listening to the community and just doing things they like, as opposed to what the community would prefer. I still have a lot of misgivings about Infinite, and a marketing session like this doesn’t fix any of them.
I’m still gonna get the game. They might add Playable Elites in a future update. They need to nail the core game before anything else can be added
If anything made one go “harumph I won’t get it now” I think their priorities are in the wrong place. It’s ok to be upset or disappointed but the extreme reaction to something said is just ridiculous.
As for my own opinions, my view is exactly where it was before ask 343. I want to play it

It’s more that I feel 343 has their priorities screwed up. It feels like they’re intentionally avoiding the hard questions and are going to let us figure it out on launch because they either don’t have a solution or don’t want to make a solution. On top of that, them not adding things players want feels like what happened with Halo 4 and Halo 5 again. They’re going to pursue their own vision on what they want instead of what the community wants or commonly asks for.

I feel like Halo Infinite is going to get the Gears of War 5 treatment where after a year or two they are going to start adding what fans want in the game or do what they did with MCC where it is going to be a long time before stuff gets added
still really hyped for single player, it all sounds amazing
cant really speak on mp but im extremely disappointed with no playable elites, especially cause they have yet to add new armors for elites in mcc, i hope they change their minds on it cause playable elites are amazing

I honestly think this is make-or-break for 343 at this point. All of the games they put out thus far have had some problem with them. Halo 4 was not well-recieved on launch and people went back to Halo 3. MCC was broken for 4 years before they went to fix it, near unplayable for some for that entire time. Halo 5 was missing tons of modes on launch with a very poor social playlist at that. No BTB, Infection, Assault or others on Launch, and no real maps made for them. This isn’t mentioning the various other problems with the games, like the microtransactions, customization and poor stories of 4 and 5 that drove the community further apart. Even MCC on PC had significant issues.
It’s a miracle 343 hasn’t been shut down yet, in my opinion. They have yet to make a game that hasn’t been a total mess on launch or had serious problems associated with it. If I were Microsoft, I’d have either restructured the entire company or shuttered 343 and brought in ID to make a solid Halo game.

I still keepings my hopes up for halo infinite and if it isn’t what I expect it to be I would just go back to keep playing the MCC and if this game does poorly I wouldn’t be surprised if they did a reboot of the franchise. I am also still doubtful that they are going to keep Halo Infinite around for ten years especially since its on the base xbox one
Honestly nothing that was shared was a make or break deal for me. That said I think people are drastically overlooking the interesting campaign mechanics that were teased, those look like they’ll be loads of fun.

Ya I defiantly think its interesting that you can fall of the ring and that the day and night cycle effects cutscenes and how the enemies act
The vast majority of what was discussed for Campaign Gameplay and Art/Visual Direction sounds very Halo; my only gripe with that being what seems like a hyper-focus on the PNW biome. Landscapes dense with plant life are obviously core to Halo’s natural environmental aesthetic, but so are the snowy fields on Assault on the Control Room, or the rocky cliff sides of Truth & Reconciliation. I just hope Zeta Halo doesn’t make me feel like I’m constantly fighting through Endor, ya know?
As for my biggest gripe, it’s playable Elites. “It’s a Spartan Story” just feels like such a superficial narrowing of Halo’s narrative lens when what made Halo feel captivating wasn’t the feeling of being this unstoppable Spartan, it was clearing an engagement without being stopped in a universe full of things that can go toe-to-toe with you, that’ll slaughter your allies if you don’t save them. And Elites, aside for Brutes and Hunters, have always shared that spotlight with the Spartans. It just feels like 343 is trying to sell me a 1 man show when I want the full band.

The hard question was whether elites are playable. They directly said no. That’s not ignoring the hard questions. That’s the opposite.
All of infinite so far is a response of player wants. The art design, the story pivot, the sandbox changes, etc. Sure they still have remnants of 4 and 5 there but there is nothing wrong with that. It’s impossible to argue when looking at the shift from 5 to infinite that they are not doing things that players want.

Pretty sure each episode of Ask343 is directly related to the latest entry of Inside Infinite, in which case none of your questions apply to that part of development.

Despite all these issues the community has with their games, their games keep selling pretty darn well. Companies don’t see a need to restructure things unless it actually impacts their bottom line.

Was hoping for dual wielding, but not a big deal either way. Playable elites would’ve been cool, but understand why they aren’t in the game. And 343 said both could be added after launch. I could definitely see dual wielding being added at least for customs. My impression of halo infinite overall is positive so far. But I need to know much more about the game before I say for sure.
The encounters varying depending on what tools you bring to them, as well as the (possible) introduction of random patrols, sounds fun and should be great for replay value, though I fear the unpredictability may hurt the speedrunning community and/or the creation of high-difficulty strategy guides. Nothing’s worse in a high-pressure playthrough than getting unlucky with a randomly-generated combination and placement of enemies.
Not that big of a deal, I know, but it’s always been fun for me to watch and learn fancy tricks for each encounter in past games. It’s what made MCC Legendary speedruns so intriguing to me.

> - No dual Wielding - No playable elites - Audi Logs Return - load out return - You can fall off the ring - Different weapon variants - wild life aren’t hostile - Day and night cycle in cutscenes
No dual wielding was kinda expected. It’s not hard to balance for social and campaign but it’s a nightmare for competitive and that seems to be 343i main focus. Itd be an easy balance of disabling DW in settings and removing aim assist and decreasing accuracy. But oh well.
No playable elites, honestly expected it. Was hoping theyd do what the community has been asking for since they took over but I guess not. I really liked them and I know a lot of people played exclusively them in reach. Heck, there were multiple Sangheili clans with hundreds of members.
Audio logs, I’ll take literally any feature that ODST brought in. I loved the audio logs to find out what happened before we arrived.
Load outs… well it really depends, readouts in reach were fine IMO. Loadout in 4, not so much. Really have to wait and see on this.
Falling off the ring. This implies we can make other things fall off the ring. Let the chaos ensue!!
I love weapon variants. HOWEVER, halo 5 did them badly. Weapon variants should be more realistic, such as a shorter barrel and smaller scope on the sniper meaning betting handling but shorter range, or a larger battery pack on plasma based weapons but worse handling, etc…
Wild life not being hostile… well this is noth cool and lame. So there are no predators on the ring? This seems lazy to me, like they just didnt feel like putting in the work on it. Regardless, I’m still happy we get animals.
Day/night cycle in cutscenes. This is super cool but at the same time I feel like it limits where and what they do with cutscenes. They now have to make sure that, no matter the time, the cutscene will always look good. Whereas if they had set times then cutscenes wouldnt be so limited. Imagine if the Nightfall mission in Reach took place in the middle of the day, it would be very weird and wouldnt make much sense.
