As the game is pretty new, it’s to no surprise that there aren’t many guides for legendary, and man am I struggling to complete Hold the Line. The closest I got was 1:55 and the last five minutes leasing up to mt ultimate defeat I was pretty doomed, as I was dry on supplies (while energy was through the roof) from spamming out cylcops and wolverine units to try and hold back the onslaught of locusts and banshees. By the three minute mark locusts were burning down my base, and I’d lost all control of the center, with banshees cutting down all of my turrets, despite me throwing wolverines at them while calmly watching my base get burnt down.
When it came to strategy I found that cyclops units were outperforming scorps, as the locusts and cleansing beams make short work of scorps. It’s also essential to maintain two nightingales, which becomes very difficult, as they die fast, so they should hang back. I supplemented the cyclops in the center and east withe hellbringers ro comvat the brute jump troops, which caused a great deal of damage when cyclops units were alone.
If anybody has beaten this on Legendary, any and all advice would be beautiful, even more so if somebody could link a walkthrough. I want to see the rest of the story, but my pride dictates that I can’t turn down the difficulty, despite spending more time on this mission than on all of the Halo Wars campaign on legendary, or even half of a c&c3 faction story on the hardest difficulty. After five hours of trying to do this stupid mission I’m about ready to give up on the campaign, so if anybody has any ideas other than panic and try to put out the fires while being cleansing beam spammed, I’m all ears.
Not that hard really hornets and scorpions with nightingale support add me Craigevo I’ll run through it if needed mate
This was a tough one. I kept a few scorpion tanks at the base with maybe 4 wolverines to help with incoming banshees. Then i had a flock of scorions + 2/3 nightingales which i used to float around the map taking out units as they spawned in.
I just beat Hold the Line on Legendary, and here is what I found helps:
-Along the NW path of the map, build turrets with Anti-Infantry add on. These should stop pretty much all Infantry advances, saving your troops and resources.
-Cyclopes over Scorpions. Scorpions are too slow, and the require Tech 3 to make. Instead, stick with Cyclopes and don’t worry about Tech three unless you have energy to spend.
-Build all turrets possible. Make a mix of Anti-Infantry and Anti-Vehicle depending which paths they are on. Anti-Air is only needed at your base.
-Build a Armory and prioritize the Fortify Base and Advance Logistics upgrades. These will give your turrets more health/damage and produce troops faster.
-Drop Lotus Mines whenever possible, especially where vehicles enter.
-Use your warthog in the beginning to go grab extra bases and get supplies.
-ODST’s are strong, and their detonation pack ability can cripple Hunters and Vehicles easily.
-You will need to increase your population eventually, but not right away. Max out your units first, then worry about increasing the cap size.
-For your base, having 1 siege turret, and 3 normal turrets should be fine. Have the Turrets be Anti-Vehicle early on, and then switch to Anti-Air once the banshees start coming in. Maintaining 3-4 Wolverines in addition to the turrets are enough to defend your base.
-Leader Points: Make sure you unlock Increased Veterancy ASAP so surviving units can become tougher. Other than that, I would prioritize Lotus Mines and Turret Drop.
Doing all of that, in the last three-ish minutes, I was forced to move all my troops to the gun I was protecting. The Banished start using drop ships to get behind your defenses, so have your troops make a beeline to the gun.
Good Luck!
