How do you assassinate?

I can never assassinate when I want to and is truly frustrating when it happens to me. Is there a trick to doing it?
So just how do you assassinate?

Hold the melee button down instead of a quick press and release. Honestly, assassination animations just get you killed though. I’d rather beat down.

Hold down RB when you’re behind someone.

By pressing the right bumper… probly better you are unable… leaves you open… usually better to beat down. That is my problem instead of a fast tap, I hold the button to long, gotten killed a few times, nice thing about wetworks… least now I can get a nade off b4 I die.
