How Do You Assassinate?

I know it has to be done from behind. I know you hit the melee button. However, I can never do it consistently. I’ve done it while sprinting, but often I end up power hitting them. I stand still and do it, then it is just a melee. I’ve aimed at the head and still just melee them. Occasionally it is an assassination. However, 95% it is just a normal kill. There is a huge inconsistency that I can’t find what works all the time.

Any tips?

I have the same thing happen to me. Do I have to hold the melee button to perform an assassination while only tapping the button to melee in the back?

Assassinations have always been simple: Be Behind your target… press and HOLD the melee button to perform assassination. If you just press it, you just melee them.
You have to Hold it.

I had the same problem back in reach don’t worry. we all start as learners somewhere.

Yeah you just melee from behind but continue to hold the button down instead of tapping it!

Often, when your trying to perform an assassination from an awkward position (ex: a corner of the map/against a wall) the animation will not happen and it will result in just a beat down/ regular melee kill (because there’s not enough room for the assassination).

Easy peasy!

Thanks guys! I haven’t played any Halo games since Halo 3. So assassinations are new to me. With the frenetic pace of the game, I suppose I was just never patient enough with holding down the button.

You can’t assassinate while you are sprinting at full speed anymore. You can be sprinting and assassinate, but if you’re at top speed you will spartan charge instead.

They are great once you get the hang of it. I’ve even had a mid air one before. AWESOMENESS man!!

Guys if u want to assassinate at knight or warden wait till the wardens hp is very low then go up behind him and then u will assassinate him but he dose not die right away which is dumb by me then the knight wait till he dose his 2nd “roar” without his helmet then u can assassinate him

Sometimes I just assassinate unintentionally.

4 easy steps:

  • Find unsuspecting target. - Do a sneaky-beaky approach from behind your target - As stated before, once behind your enemy HOLD the melee button to assassinate your enemy. - Enjoy a satisfying assassination animation and earn +1 for your assassination commendation…or unless ya get yoinked by teammate/enemy.

If someone is behind you, jump thrust back and melee when the red dot is in the centre of your radar

you have to hold the melee button longer because sometimes you dont wanna assassinate because of the situation you’re in and you need a quick kill and an assassination would kill you.
