I have been trying to get assassinations for the past couple of days and I end up getting one about every 3 days, they are honestly the hardest thing I have ever had to do in a video game, I have tried spawning in camo after camo but it just doesn’t work, every time I hit someone in the back it just does a beat down, and every time I actually get into the animation, a team mate steals it, cliffhangers are 10x easier to get then these. I have just about every assassination unlocked and it’s such a shame then I never get to use them. Any advice would help cause this is literally the biggest pain in the -Yoink- trying to get these.
Hit their right shoulder from behind. A straight-up melee to the general back area will usually just give you a Beat-Down.

Get behind them, (easier said than done) close to melee range & hold the melee button. Best of luck!

I really don’t know if it helps but I hold it down every time I get a chance

Ah, I wondered this too…
If you just tap the melee button it will just perform a beat down. It was the same way in Reach and H4. You’s has gots to’s holds it
make sure in your controller settings you have assassinations set to on. you can turn it off in case of games you want to kill them quick without the animation causing your death.

I didn’t even know how to assassinate until I realized you have to hold down RB/Melee
I didn’t know that so many people had trouble with this. The biggest problem for me is getting behind the guy.

I finished that commendation earlier this year. Here’s my advice:
Use the animation “And Stay Down”. It’s one of the quicker ones, but more importantly it throws the enemy down on the ground, keeping them low, which makes it harder for teammates to steal your kill.
I remember going into Grifball, waiting for inactive players (happens a lot), and assassinating them as soon as they spawn. You can get a few a match that way. Kind of messed up, I know, but at least you’re not being an inactive player!
Honestly, Camo in Warzone is one of the best ways to go. Try to find a tunnel or path players frequently go through, and get around a corner. You may have to burn through quite a few Camo reqs. Even if you run out of camos, try camping those spots. On Apex, camp in the tunnels that go under the core base towers. On most any map, camp outside an enemy armory, and wait for people to run out one of the bottom doorways.
If you do Arena, camp shotgun spawn on Eden/Empire. People walk by without checking that back area, so you can usually see them on your radar, come up behind them and get the assassination

You hold the home button. Press up on the D pad and then press A
yes you have to hold the assassination button. also be careful, some assassinations wont trigger near walls. I know for a fact Terminal Velocity works this way
Do you have assassinations turned on in your options?
Edit: Warzone Assault is probably the best game type for assassinations.
