Looking at Aozolai’s Sidekick video showing the TTK values of 4 weapons, he got:
AR: 1.15 seconds with headshots, 1.40 seconds with bodyshots.
Commando: 1.00 second with a headshot kill, 1.40 seconds with bodyshots.
Sidekick: 1.10 seconds with a headshot kill, 1.40 seconds with bodyshots.
BR: 1.55 seconds with headshot kill, 2.40 seconds with bodyshots.
I see a lot of people celebrating the AR and stuff being really good against the BR, and I also like having a useful AR to start with to some extent. I also get that an automatic weapon should tend to kill faster than a precision weapon with bodyshots since the whole point of a precision weapon is to hit mid-long range headshots. However, the AR, Commando, and Sidekick all kill noticeably faster than a BR whether to the body OR the head. The BR is more accurate, but even a perfect 4 burst to the head struggles against the AR except at long-range due to the hefty delay. I almost feel like I’m crazy because I see a ton of people adoring the fast AR TTK, but I personally wish it was just a tad slower (even just 1 more shot to kill). Anyone else have thoughts about it so far?

Watched the videos about this last night. I think the weapons are balanced really well. They are emphasizing accuracy and keeping distance which I love. No weapon feels useless and each has a clear best use. You will have to strategize how you want to enter/leave combat with specific weapons.
You have to have absurd accuracy to hit those AR headshots.
I think they need to just make the assault rifle, sidekick, and commando a little less powerful. Mainly because the br has the same ttk as halo 3 and i want that to stay as the ttk i like. I felt like i was getting killed too fast than usual halo.
While it’s not nearly as aggressive as it once was, the AR still has bloom, and the inability to 1-hko to the head means fights that involves grenades or melee will put the AR on a much more even playing field. It has to kill a lot faster in a perfect scenario because that perfect scenario is rare and difficult to manage.

Less powerful? I extremely disagree. The TTK felt natural to Halo in the modern era. You want them to make weapons less useful which leads to no one using those weapons. The risk/reward with the Commando and Side Kick is great.
I like looking at it in this format instead.
Optimal:
Commando - 1.00s
Side Kick 1.10s
AR - 1.15s
Battle Rifle - 1.44s
Body:
Commando - 1.40s
Side Kick - 1.40s
AR - 1.40s
Battle Rifle - 2.44s

Nice data, I hope this game has more guns then previous titles.
AR kills a bit too fast compared to the BR. Remove the headshot multiplier for the AR and buff the BR’s fire rate to give it a similar TTK to the current AR. I will say for the first time since Halo 3, even if nothing changes from the first tech preview, we are on track to have a solid well-refined Halo multiplayer game out of the box (H2A doesn’t really count as a original title).

Leave the multiplier and make optimal 1.25.
The AR is definitely a touch too powerful IMO. While I do like the more varied weapon sandbox we’ve seen thus far from Infinite, I think having the AR kill this quickly from even medium-long distances isn’t terribly healthy for the balance of the game. I don’t want it nerfed into the ground by any means, but I think removing the headshot multiplier and maybe increasing its bullet spread a bit would be good.

It’s burst accuracy is really good if you know what you’re doing. You can basically use the thing as a discount BR
While I love the AR and don’t want to see it nerfed I believe that it does not need precision damage. It’s an automatic weapon, it does not need it.

The problem is the guns are too strong and kill too fast and just balancing them around the br kill time which is the same as halo 3 i think would make all of them useful while keeping the ttk where the br is which is to me the ideal ttk. Or at the very least make the br as powerful as them but I prefer having a slower ttk like halo 3.

Being a classic player I really like the TTK. It feels natural. It is easy to see why you think the TTK is an issue though because we were playing against bots that were easy to hit. This is significantly less so with the PVP. If you allow someone to get the optimal TTK then you probably set yourself up for failure IMO.
i have no problems with it, unlike H5 the pistol isnt running the sandbox, I will say though that the AR is a bit too effective at longer ranges
Remove the headshot modifier on the AR,
OR alternatively keep bit but reduce is RRR
OR reduce the DMG the AR does
any one of those (not all I don’t want ot see it nerfed into the ground) I think would balance it out a tad more

Well in pvp i feel that the ar and sidekick were to affective in how fast you died personally i just like the idea of the commando and br being near each other with commando being slightly faster. And making the ar and sidekick being only a little worse maybe having the ar beat the br in close but not commando and sidekick being slightly worse and having worse range and that seems perfect to me. Honestly im fine either way cuz i loved infinite and i hope they wait until at least a beta until thinking of balancing.
They felt fine. Longer TTK may sound balanced in paper, but in reality its a pain in the -Yoink-. They feel powerful enough, but not OP. And while headshots do lower your TTK, you are msot likely to shoot to the chest or below, since none of the full-auto weapons (not even the commando) are pin-point accurrate like in any game with proper ADS (Halo has more of a F.E.A.R.-like zoom)

I think switch it the optimal to like 1.25 or even 1.30 would be perfect for it tbh.
I think the BR should get a buff and have the ability to beat an AR at any range. If the buff is given, make the BR harder to use because it was by far the easiest to use in the game.
Essentially, only a perfect kill should beat the AR up close with the BR assuming the AR user is just as good. This way, precision weapons are still the most viable and technically the strongest in the game. However, lower it’s aim assist and magnetism to make the optimal time to kill hard to achieve.
Overall, I like that the AR seems to be taking the “jack of all trades role.” It definitely felt the best out of the bunch, but that mat have to do more with the wonky aiming of the others than the AR itself. I personally think it’s fine as is. But some small tuning like a smaller effective range or removing the headshot multiplayer could be reasonable without killing its general viability.
The AR should be mor effective at closer ranges than the BR though. Seen some people (mainly Twitter) where they insist that the BR should win all scenarios. Also I am not against the slower TTK. Did feel a little fast. But that is more for the game as a whole, not just the AR.
