Did the Guardians get to Sanghellios and Meridian through space, or were they there the whole time?

They took the metro bus. It’s cheap and nasty, but it’ll get you where you need to go. As long as you don’t get stabbed and/or mugged.
Either already hidden there before Halo Array fired (or in beginning stages of life after reseeding), or travel by Slipspace.

I think that they probably traveled there, for whatever reason.

I’d guess that they travel the same way as standard Forerunner space ships do.
Yeah, I wonder what their actual purpose is and why they are destroying these planets in particular.
Probably buried during the Forerunner remnant exodus from the Orion Arm of the Milky Way. That’s my guess.
I think I know now. Its probably through slipspace, since in Hunt the Truth, there are slipspace anomaly’s, which would probably be the Guardians. Also in one of Master Chiefs experience logs, you see the Guardian appear through what looks like slipspace.

They most likely travel through slipspace. They wouldn’t have been buried there for thousands of years, otherwise the Covenant would have discovered the one on Sangheilios with a Luminary.

I’ll say they were buried otherwise Liang Dortmund probably wouldn’t have a purpose.
Related question: if the purpose of the Guardians is to destroy things on a massive scale, aren’t they kind of redundant when they already have the Halo array?
