How do the Gravemind communicate with his flood?

I’m always wonder that. Any lore/explanation on how did he do that?

The Flood is a hivemind, and the Gravemind is the head of that hivemind. The Gravemind is actually the Primordial who took over GM after his body was destroyed at the end of Primordium. The Flood comes from defected Precursor dust. While the Flood is NOT Precursors, it owes its existence to the Precursors, and the Primordial controls the Flood.

> “While it is not known how the Gravemind is able to communicate with subordinate Flood forms across the galaxy, its self-comparison to a computer network implies that similar techniques may be used, with each Flood form possibly acting as a networking node and redistributing the Gravemind’s commands to other forms.”

He’s the Primordial (a Precursor) and yes, capable of telepathy.

Well sort of. Think of the Flood as a single being, with the Gravemind as the brain and numerous Flood forms being its arms and limbs

Yeah well you need someway of communications right? It’s not like your brain is separated from your limbs

The Flood is a hivemind and it probably has something with Neural Physics given it’s Precursor origins.

I think if you strip away the techno mumbo jumbo, the explanation is telepathy.

This would also explain how the Gravemind is able to communicate to non-Flood creatures (like the Chief and Arbiter) without a traditional mouth and vocal chords.
And how the Gravemind was able to send messages to the Chief in Halo 3.

The best info we have suggests that the Flood consciousness has some link to slipspace. It would explain how the Flood managed to retain memories of the original war even after the domain was damaged and the Halo Array fired, and also explains why at the height of the Flood ascendancy slipspace became exceptionally dangerous. It also slots in nicely with the ideas explored by Halsey in her Reach journal about achieving metastability for AIs through slipspace.

If it’s harbored in slipspace that also gives us a technical hand wave for how the telepathy works—it’s some sort of organic FTL communication.

Someone here knows the book “The Swarm”?
In this book, a single organism of the swarm is able to alter his DNA to store memorys and knowledge and then share this knowledge with other swarm organism on an molecular level.
I wouldnt be surprised if the Flood can use a similar technique to share information.

Like bees!
It’s a beehive.
