How do placement matches work?

I haven’t found any details on how the placement matches work. They mention winning is the only way to go up after your ranking placement, but what about before? I can’t see how it would be fair if a good player was placed in bronze because they ended up with less able team mates and hence losing all 10 placement matches. No matter how good you are, if your team mates suck, you can’t win a team slayer match. For example, I recall getting 41 kills in a team slayer match, but I still lost because my 3 team mates only got 5 kills between them and ran blindly around the map. So I beg the question, by what means do placement matches figure out your deserved rank?

From what I gather the placement matches take your skill into account against who you play with, who you do good against, etc. There are hidden methods in the background that determine your rank during placement.

Josh Holmes, on TeamBeyond, said it was secret. So we may never know exactly, and for good reason. If people knew exactly how it was determined, I’m sure quite a few players would trick the system into ranking them higher than they should be.

Ons thing I do know is that the placement games in the beta definately took individual skill into account.

You play 10 games. It sees your win/loss and k/d for them. Puts you in a rank. Then it’s only win/loss not accounting for your k/d I think.

Its based off wins and kd, me and another buddy did placements with a friends who was bad, we all won 9/10. And our buddy who was bad had a terrible kd got placed platinum while me and my other buddy placed onyx
