How do I master the plasma pistol?

I am trying to get all of the weapon commendations done but now that I am on the plasma pistol I can barely make progress. I am lucky to get two kills a match with that pice of junk. I don’t have time to play a total of 475 matches (requires 950 total kills I believe and and 950 devided by 2 makes 475). I am trying to unlock the protector drift armor skin without boosting. I know 343 is not going to do anything about how weak the plasma pistol is (judjung by the fact that they are doing nothing about the “DLC maps not playable anymore” situation). If anyone who has mastered the plasma pistol is reading this then please tell me how you mastered it.

It should have been like reach. Where magnum or plasma pistol kills progressed the “small arms” commendation

Just melee, then feather the trigger.

Try to use grenades to take foes shields and finish them with the plasma pistol

So far, my best strategy alone is to use whatever weapon you can use;Any close or.mid.range weapon can do. After the shields pop, hit them with a PP. Having dexterity to swap quickly can really help out.

For BR, I hit them 4 times in the chest, then go for the PP kill. The only other way I can think of is to get 5 friends and play Regicide. As long as everyone is playing, it wouldn’t matter.

This, concussion rifle and grav hammer are all that remains for me. The ordinance is at the mastery level, just a few dozen or so to go. But the plasma pistol sits at proficient. Every time I try to get one kill with it get frustrated beyond belief. I play to win, not putz around with a fiffy plasma pistol. I won’t sacrifice my teams chances at a victory just so i can die thousand times trying to get a PP kill.

Reach had it right - small arms, autos, rifles, heavy weapons, etc. Broad categories, thousands of kills to hit Onyx. Why did they ever break from that?

From what i hear regicide is your best bet, but i don’t see how unless your whole party buys in.

I think (may be wrong) a combo people have been doing is 2 PP shots + melee then 1 shot more to kill them. Or its 1 shot + melee then 2 shots. I can’t quite remember but I think its that.

Reach was by Bungie so 343 more then likely wanted something different.
