How do i kill elites?

i’m trying to finish the game on Legendary, and i keep getting killed by elites that DONT DIE.

every weapon combo i try doesn’t work.

Assault rifle requires that i be in melee range to do any significant damage, and bust firing does not change its accuracy, so it’s completely worthless

Magnum spamming form long range is near impossible, because they constantly take cover, and move too erratically to hit anyway, and besides, no matter how many headshots i give to an unshielded elite, the damage does not change.

Needleer tracks too slowly and the elite always evades the projectiles

Plasma rifle doesn’t deal enough damage fast enough (and besides, i cannot combat the aimbot very well)

Plasma Pistol uncharged shots and useless, and charged shots rarely hit the target i want, if at all

Plasma Pistol/ magnum combo doesn’t work, as again, headshots don’t seem to work.

and i’m that early on that i do not have access to sniper rifles, shotguns or Rockets, and i never have any grenades.

Have a partner maybe?

Clear everything out except for the elites first. Next needeler from long range. Then plasma pistol from long range and keep pistol shooting them till they go down. Or heck plasma pistol them then use any other weapon till they go down. If you use the plasma rifle, don’t hold the trigger down one press=one shot. It can be damn accurate. Try to focus on one elite at a time. If that one goes into cover toss a grenade into it’s hiding spot. If that does not kill it try to get some shots in. If you can’t get to cover and recharge. As long as you have hurt the elite’s health a little you are making progress. Just keep knocking down the shields and getting a few body shots in. They will go down one by one. The halo CE pistol is not as accurate as people have said. Nore is it as powerful. Another think to look at is where grenades are lying on the ground. If an elite is near them set them off.

  1. Clear all other enemies out
  2. Find some good cover kind of near the Elite
  3. Have a plasma pistol and precision weapon ready
  4. Pray

Don’t get close. Ever. EVER. Always stay near cover. A common rookie mistake is to charge out not remembering how strong the elites are. Take advantage of how your shields recharge faster than theirs. Play cat and mouse til the shields go down, always stay near quick cover.

Next: needlers are very effective at longer range, right at the edge of their aim assist is best for CEA. Honestly though I don’t use them much.

Assault rifle and plasma pistol or rifle are great in this game. Contrary to what you said burst firing is actually decently effective with the AR.

Plasma pistol is still the most ridiculous common weapon in the game. Just hose them down with green blobs of death, don’t even bother overcharging. Once the shields are down you could switch to human for increased body shot damage or just keep shooting they will go down soon enough. Plasma rifle does well too but runs out of ammo quicker/is more rare typically.

Lastly, grenades are your best friend in this game. I hardly ever even use power weapons in CEA. Sniper on the sniper mission and maybe rockets on hunters if I don’t feel like killing them the fun way with juking or the cheap way (pistol. 1sk really?)

Best combo in my opinion is either plasma pistol and normal pistol, or plasma pistol and shotgun

I normally go for plasma pistol/pistol.it depends on the mission I’m doing think there is a couple missions where you can use the sniper rifle to take down the elites.also I find the Needleer quite helpfull to.

As said before, Covenant weapons are your bread’n butter for taking down Elite shielding. Especially Plasma Rifles/Pistols. They’re very common weapons and can whittle down their shields in no time if you’re a cool customer. Afterwards, riddle them with anything you have until they’re taking a dirt nap. Needlers are especially effective, but you need to make sure that your shots have a clear flight path to your target and that any chain reaction set off by explosions won’t incinerate you.

The golden rules are to use your ammunition effectively and never get within melee range of an Elite unless you’re going for a 100% awesome stealth kill. They will roundhouse kick you in to space without a second thought.

Elites are not hard to kill on any level/difficulty. It takes about one to one and a half clips from the assault rifle to kill an elite on legendary. It only takes one or two hits with a fully charged shots from the plasma pistol to take an elite’s shields down then one shot to the head from the magnum to score the kill.and the needler is a useful weapon against elites, to tell the truth you don’t have to get close to an elite for this weapon to kill them all you need to do is be able to see them then shot ( I do not know how far away you need to be for this weapon to hit its target) but I can get kill even when my reticle is not red.

  1. first, if you want help, I would love to go through legendary co-op and knock down these achievements. any of you - message me on Xbox at Shaman0610 and I’ll play through! I’m a pretty solid Halo player, can help you guys out (and you can help me get through campaign faster!)

  2. I’m slowly going through it legendary solo, and like others have said, clear the smaller units first. I try and keep a precision weapon (pistol preferably) to one-shot kill the grunts and jackals.

then, keep range and you can either pop their shield with a covenant weapon, or my personal fav is needler. needler is very useful, just position yourself well so that when you move on the elite, the line of fire can’t be easily impeded by the elite moving away.

Also, get really good at sticky grenading. I save the frags for getting around jackals that I can’t flank.

If you think plasma overcharge/pistol combo doesn’t work then the problem is your aim, not the game. It works just fine and it got me through Legendary many times. It’s the quickest and most effective way of killing Elite’s besides a point-blank shotgun blast. Just realize that the further away you are when you let go of that PP charge, the farther away you are the longer it takes to hit the target and easier for the Elite to dodge it, especially if he sees it coming.

Plasma pistol and magnum are all yo need
But a rocket launcher or sniper rifle wouldn’t go astray

Several.

-Follow the COG Golden Rule from Gears of War; Take cover or die. The less of your body out in the open, the less they have to shoot at.

-Try to get the jump on them. Surprise them by popping out of cover right in front of them, then, try to get a grenade stick, hose them with burning green and blue fire ,til they have their shields pop. Then, either keep shooting, drop a frag at their feet, or cap em’ with a magnum/sniper. Just make sure they don’t 100% know you’re there.

-Keep in mind that the Sniper Rifle can be rather effective at no-scoping, surprisingly so. You may need a bit of practice, but if it’s mastered, it makes the pistol look weak. It makes a great compliment to a Plasma weapon.

-Take them out in order of highest rank first (After you eliminate the cannon fodder), so the lower ranks will be confused. The higher ranks also tend to be a little more aggressive.

-Gravity is your friend. If you can make them fall a ways, it can be more effective than any bullet or fist.

I think the way I did it was spam grenades and rockets until they died… on later levels, I occasionally used the Shotgun, if I had the opportunity.

BTW, I picked up the “Bandana” skull before attempting Legendary. It gives you unlimited ammo and grenades; huge help, obviously. Especially if you get your hands on the Rocket Launcher

I never beat the Campaign on Legendary in the original game, so I don’t know any other way to do it… in Halo 3, Reach, and Halo 4 I typically took down Brutes, Elites, and Knights from a safe distance with weapons like the Battle Rifle, DMR, Carbine, and Light Rifle; mixed with the Plasma Pistol, when necessary. Most of that stuff isn’t available in Combat Evolved, so it’s a little trickier…

> Assault rifle requires that i be in melee range to do any significant damage, and bust firing does not change its accuracy, so it’s completely worthless

The AR is the most viable choice for the T&R grav lift + boarding fight, even in speedruns. It helps a lot if you have marine support.

> Magnum spamming form long range is near impossible, because they constantly take cover, and move too erratically to hit anyway, and besides, no matter how many headshots i give to an unshielded elite, the damage does not change.

The Pistol is great for creating ambush opportunities. The Elites are very vulnerable when they’re in cover, much more easier to approach. Ah yeah, I love how they actually have a strafe unlike Reach Elites, which are constantly moving with eyes in the back of their head.

> Needleer tracks too slowly and the elite always evades the projectiles

With the right kind of cover, the Needler can destroy Elites while your shield and health remain intact. You don’t even have to stick out of cover, you don’t even have to have the crosshair turn red.

Also, the Needler is great for setting off chain reactions using dropped grenade piles not to mention it does a powerful form of EMP damage + large blast radius, which can devastate an army of Covies in the right scenario.

> Plasma rifle doesn’t deal enough damage fast enough (and besides, i cannot combat the aimbot very well)

The CE plasma rifle is blessed with stun capability and headshot bonus. It also doesn’t overheat as fast as in Halo 2/3. It’s autoaim isn’t as bad as the Rocket Launcher.

> Plasma Pistol uncharged shots and useless, and charged shots rarely hit the target i want, if at all

The CE plasma pistol uncharged shots are the most viable in any Halo game by far, perfect for stunning unshielded Elites and finishing off or can even 1sk Grunts/Jackals.

> Plasma Pistol/ magnum combo doesn’t work, as again, headshots don’t seem to work.

Yeah, the pistol isn’t exactly godly. The somewhat random spread can get irritating.

  1. Secure the “Bandana” skull. Infinite ammo and 'nades. It’s a life saver.
  2. Take it slow. Don’t just bull rush in. Take a few seconds observe the battle field and then attack.
  3. If possible have a partner. During difficult points of the campaign go one at a time. That way you chip away at the enemy and when one of you die, your progress isn’t lost.

I’ve been playing 9 years of this game and still didn’t think elite’s shields recharged in CE.

Rockets.

'Nuff said, lol

Just put the grunt birthday party skull on and then just kill the grunts whenever they’re near any enemies you want to kill with them.

Please don’t necropost, it doesn’t do any good.

I think a necro is considered more than a month old?

OT, plasma pistol charge, aim better.
