Original poster, I came in here to tell you to run for your life, but I was too late.

Welcome to the Halo Waypoint forums, where if you don’t have a HDTV, you are lower than pond scum.

There are a lot of losers around here who think they are better than you. See my thread a couple down from here called “Why is gameplay in widescreen”. You’ll see what I’m talking about.

I’ll be mature and answer your question, since nobody else will. You can not remove the widescreen option. Apparently, you need an HDTV to do that. That is the general consensus amongst all the rudesters around here. Even though I’ve stated more then once that I have TWO HDTVs and it is showing up with the black bars on both of my TVs as well. So it kind of shoots their argument right out of the water.

Play the original Halo CE game.

Sorry, but once you spent half your message insulting people it was too late for you to be mature in your answer.

If you’re seeing black bars during actual gameplay then you need to change a setting on your TV. There are black bars for the cinematics, but not for gameplay if your TV is set up properly.

I believe you will ALWAYS see black bars if you are not playing on a HDTV, if you want to experience CEA without the black bars, you would be required to update your TV set.

Sorry, but that’s what happens when you get a bunch of snarky remarks in reply to a legitimate question. I’m not gonna apologize. Simple fact of the matter is, I’ve never encountered so many rude people on an Internet forum in my entire life. The OP came on, asked a question and was answered with “LOL” and “Get an HDTV”. Not really answering his question is it? And never mind the fact that maybe he can’t afford to go buy an HD TV (although, according to peole in my thread, if you can afford the console, you can afford the TV. Failing to see the logic in that reasoning.)

And calling ppl losers for acting like losers or calling them rude for being rude doesn’t make me immature. Sorry, but it doesn’t. If you don’t want to be insulted, then don’t be insulting to others. How do you think the OP felt, asking a legitimate question, and then he’s laughed at and made to feel stupid? They deserved everything I said.

People like that ARE losers, in my opinion. Just answer the question or don’t post. Plain and simple. At least you answered the question.

SET YOUR xbox 360 screen format to widescreen thats what i did and it removes the lines hope i helped

Just want to note that I just tried this solution and it does work. That said, it makes most of your HUD elements (including the Chief’s hand and weapon) look really awkward and warped. Nothing else, though - just your HUD elements. If you can get used to that (I hardly noticed anymore after a single level), this solution works. If not, there is no solution.

Actually, setting it to widescreen while using a fullscreen display does in fact cause the entire image to be distorted; it’s very much horizontally squished. Not just the HUD elements.

Another way of looking at it is that you’re seeing the same image that you get in the letterboxed view, but vertically stretched to eliminate the black bars.

Get an HD tv for your xbox. Ith worked for me when I player the game on my brother in law’s HD set. I still use an old Vacuum tube electron tv. But I still have yet to head out to college and I doubt my parents would get me a 30 inch lcd HD tv.
