I just downloaded the new Waypoint app for Xbox and the default language is Finnish. It’s horrible! Halo games are in English so I obviously want to use Waypoint in English as well. In my Xbox system settings my language is set as “English” and it was “English” also before downloading the new Waypoint app. My “locale” is “Finland” but I’m not willing to change that, since I AM in Finland.
Try deleting the Finnish version off your Hard Drive, then open this up: http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-GB/Product/Halo-Waypoint/66acd000-77fe-1000-9115-d8024d5308ce
Try downloading from there, it might be in English.
Thanks, Moa! I’ll give that a try.

Sweet!
If it doesn’t work, you’ll need to create a new Xbox LIVE Account, but use a US e-mail & phone number when signing up, then the account will be a US account, which should allow you to download Halo Waypoint in English.

Or just try changing my “locale”.
But both of these feel wrong because this shouldn’t be a problem at all. There should just be a way to change the language from inside the app. I’m sure that most people want to use Waypoint in English instead of Finnish or Spanish or wherever they live.
Oh and by the way, your trick didn’t work.
Changing my “locale” to “United Kingdom” helped, but I don’t like it. What else did it change? My timezone perhaps? This is ridiculous. Well I’ll stop whining now. Hopefully they will fix this in the future. Thanks for the help, Moa! You’re a real angel.

This is actually not a bug, but in introduction of additional language support. Previously, Waypoint supported a mere 5 languages, but now supports some 15+. For some, such as Finnish, the way to toggle local language support is to set the language to English and set Locale to the country to be supported.
As you discovered, you can set Locale to a country with English as the primary language to ‘disable’ the local language support.

Thanks for the clarification! Though I still find it illogical to use my Locale as a preferred language. Is this a custom with other apps as well?

I was under the impression that the last Xbox Live update added this functionality… but I don’t know the inner workings of all that for sure. I just noticed it after that point.
