So I’m planning out a book that I’m going to wright and I wanted to name a character yaih wolos, which is sanghieli for better change. (Some of the items and characters in the book may have various origins in name) I didn’t choose it because of how it sounds, but because of the meaning of the words and how it fits the story.
I’m not exactly sure on the copyright polices for languages in halo and wanted to see if I could contact someone of find the rules to be safe. If I am not aloud to use the name under any circumstancesm then I will change it.
You should be fine as long as you don’t actually publish the book. If nobody is making a profit off it, nobody is really the wiser. Until you go mass public/for profit on it, I don’t think anyoen will care.

I was planning on publishing, which was why I was asking on the 343’s policies. I guess I’m probably better off changing the name, otherwise I’d probably have to go through a lot of trouble trying to get permission to use words from a fake language, it just doesn’t seem worth it.

Yes for profit, no I have not. However I am aware of copyright rules and I know that you can only use someone else’s material if you have permission, which is why I had wanted to contact an official, but I found a better name now so I don’t need to try and contact anyone. The new name is japanese rather than a sangheili phrase.
