Or people can just be good at games - but I do agree that Halo hasn’t been a good casual experience in the more recent games, especially Infinite.
There are some people who are just really good at the game. I know for a fact it isn’t just a bunch of kids either, at least from those I know personally.
As someone who typically plays casually, you can be positive in matches if you drop the AR and get a better weapon or change up your play style for the map/game type. Like other posters I have “adult” responsibilities but I was able to find the right balance with this game that keeps it enjoyable and playable even being mid-level to faster, more dedicated players. Just keep trying things until you figure out what works best.
Does it need more easily accessible balance? Sure but until that happens there’s ways to work through it.
Its a population thing. Sometimes it will be hard and sometimes it will be easy. I went from a 28 kill 5 death match against very bad players to a BTB of 4 kills 5 deaths. I just blame it on my own experience mainly and fighting against harder players is the best way to improve. Or you could practice against bots until you feel comfortable. Imo its rly not an issue with halo. People practicing and being good is something you’re just going to have to deal with until you get to their level. This is coming from someone who has played halo infinite for only a few weeks so I’m not advanced in any way ![]()
“casual” isn’t a rule or something that players who don’t play ranked have to play like.
If you want a truly casual game maybe get some of your friends and make a custom match.
In respect, it is a Video game. An FPS video game so of course, there are going to be teens practicing all day to be their best. also welcome back!
Perfectly stated.
Halo Infinite is not for social fun. There is no pre or post game lobbies. No way to invite recent players easily, your communication is automatically set to mute when you get the game.
The changes in Call of Duty Warzone is exactly where Halo Infinite should’ve went back to just like in Halo 2 with proximity chat, but nope, we’ve regressed and now don’t even easily get to communicate with our teammates.
When a game gets launched early just for a Esports event, that’s really all that we need to be told to see what/ who this game is designed for.
I mostly stick to custom games. SBMM is too strict and makes me wait way too long to play a game. And when i find a game it’s both sweaty and laggy because a good connection is not an option for players at my level. Online is just not fun or worth it.
I want to say that we’ve known this since Halo Reach when we could choose between SBMM and CBMM. SBMM always resulted in more laggy matches because it focused on skill more than anything else. The low player population in this games does not help either.
I think there needs to be a better explanation of how a casual player plays said game.
And what is the expectation from said player?
My thought exactly. Isn’t casual objective and different to everyone? Someone’s version of casual is most likely different from someone else’s.
Are you playing with Local Region matchmaking turned on? I haven’t really had any laggy matches since that update came out months ago. Sure it takes longer to get games and there playlists I pretty much can’t play (I’m in Australia so other regions should be better) but I’ll take that in order to get a low ping connection.
It’s off by default (ie You get matches from any server) which is a mistake IMO but it seems to work pretty well.
I have not tried this but I’ll give it a try. I live in the US and my wait times are already pretty long, so I’m not too excited about having them becoming longer. Won’t knock it till I try it.
Community Servers in the Custom Games Browser.
You’ll never find anything more casual then what you see in there.
If you like to play some of the less popular playlists it may not be for you but just knowing that every game you load into will be low ping makes it so much easier to wait a little longer for me. You’ll still get occasional server issues but it’s never a high ping game which is a big improvement.
If you think the same way I do I’d rather be told that there is no game available then to load into a game that will frustrate me rather than actually be fun.
I assume causal players play Halo by not caring about dying while playing casually. In my experiences, I’ll get a mix of hard and easy games in this system, so I think sbmm is only part of the problem, but a lot of people probably think that’s the main reason why it’s not casual. The skill floor is higher in this game and you just need to look at how harder the precision weapons are to use as one example. To make the game more casual, a major overhaul would be required.
They just don’t, they move onto other games. Imagine giving the game a try because it’s under “top free games” in the store, obly to be welcomed with experience that is this bad, getting destroyed by high skill/PC players, a game that’s this unfinished and lacking so many features people take for granted nowadays, how much can anyone last, a week, two at best?
I had buddies uninstalling the game literally on the second-third day of giving the game a try, with the end conclusion “the game is just trash”, and that’s even after explaining them all the aspects, how and why this and that works, you just cannot convince people with blank, dumb statements like you’ll get on this forum like “but that’s Halo!”, “sandbox gameplay”, “rock/paper/scissors balance”, nobody’s gonna buy it anymore, it worked 20 yeats ago and mostly just due to the fact that there was literally zero competition, there was no FPS on OG Xbox. but the games gave greatly evolved ever since and there are so many of them to choose from, while Halo is just a relict of the past only a small bunch of die-hard fanboys are willing to play, imagine being a F2P game that’s dead, only Ubisoft’s Hyper Scape did worse because there was no fanbase it could rely on.
Honestly my way is squad up with friends, launch BTB & play for fun, but personally the results would be better on MCC
lol, ima come back to this one in the future
