A question in the back of my mind has always been, “Why don’t the Hunters have support units?” If they could go as large as Scarab why not go smaller as well? What is the possibility of a colony taking substantial damage, reforming without optimal members to make a fully powered hunter, thus making a smaller faster version of their larger selves.
Hunter’s are already extremely fast. An odd note that Fred repeats to MC in H5G which honestly I felt MC was going to reply with “Geez, Fred I know. GOSH!” like some teenager being for the umpteen time how to do the dishes by their parents.
There has been some diversity with a massive amount coming from…whatever Locke’s short show was called. It showed alot about how some lekgolo can survive which was pretty interesting and I hope it is in someway introduced in game. A hunter-like EMP to armor that shuts off your abilities sounds like a pretty cool way for enemies to level the playing field even outside of the games. Acting as the Ysalamiri of Halo.
“You’ve got power armor we have worms!”
While going smaller isn’t bad how much bigger can they become? Can a colony operate a carrier or how about simulate flood infection like the Goa’uld from Stargate. How finite or endless are the possibility?
Scarabs are one colony, the same goes for Hunters,so two hunters are still one colony but splited in two hunters.Support units maybe possible if a colony gets big enough.
Also Lekgolos cant get Flood infected due their lack of mass, but they can still be used as biomass.
Well, Hunters, Locusts, Scarabs, and Harvesters are all controlled by Lekgolo colonies. And including the Swarm we saw jn Nightfall, the Forerunners presumably were also interested in the question of how far a colony can expand. It’s likely that the size of a colony is determined more on whether or not it’s physically capable of supporting itself, as all of the Lekgolo colonies in the service of the Covenant inhabit some form of armor or vehicle. As far as we know, Lekgolo aren’t capable of anything new ability-wise besides anything inherent to being a worm colony, but I do think that the Lekgolo in general are one of the most unexplored species in Halo and I would love to see them explored more in the future.

Actually, Locusts are piloted. Though yes the Lekgolo are one of the least explored, unfortunately because the more “alien” species are harder to write for - writers always prefer Sangheili, Jiralhanae, Unggoy, and Kig-Yar since that’s an existence that we can partially relate to and understand. For Lekgolo and Yanme’e, it’s a bit more of a foreign concept that isn’t explored that often - and because of that, no one’s really interested in trying.

Locusts are still supported by Lekgolo colonies. Scarabs are piloted as well, but can also act independently. I’d imagine the Locust could do the same.
