How did you defeat Escharum on legendary and how lucky were you?

I shot him with a shock rifle until his health was whittled down then finished him with the bloodblade

So, I finally made it past the waves to this fight, and it makes me think whoever designed some of these bosses just hates people.
Those bosses are too durable, powerful and fast for anything but the most cheesy strategies to work.
Now I’m at the hammer stage of the Escharum fight, and I’m at a loss for even cheesy strategies.
Does anyone know a good strategy for this battle?

I’ve tried…

  • running around, but he’s too fast.
  • dodging, but it takes too long to cool down.
  • grappling, but it takes too long to activate.
  • throwing a wall, but he jumps through it with his hammer leap.
  • hiding on and behind the large boxes, but the hammer effect just goes right through it.
  • jumping on those things on the walls, but he throws infinite grenades at me.
  • using melee, but he punches me, or he uses that short-range hammer slam, and he can turn around way too fast.

My legendary playthrough was also my LASO playthrough, decided to knock them both out at once… and best believe I scorpion gun 1 shot him.

With all the grief this game has given me over its Legendary boss fights, I think I might skip a LASO playthrough.
Also, can you even use that weapon now?

I don’t believe it’s been patched yet. I’ve made the decision to 100% my LASO playthrough, currently at like 70 something now, and I still have it equipped.

Also LASO is so much easier than regular legendary. Bandana skull is a game changer, infinite ammo, grenades, and no ability recharge time.

The Single most difficult part was the 3 linear missions in the beginning. Beyond that it was a cake walk.

You can use the Bandana skull and still get the LASO achievement?

You have to as far as I know.

That’s good to know.
I was thinking they’d limit it to non-beneficial skulls.

The achievement picture even shows bandana skull. Oddly enough it shows 13 skulls, but there’s only 12 in game.

Just googled the 13th… iron which wouldn’t work in infinite.

There’s a “Restart Mission” option, so why wouldn’t it work in Infinite?

Took about 5 minutes, just use Bandana and keep rockets or whatever gun you think works best. Then just constantly grappled away. Easiest Legendary of any Halo game, a joke really.

Without the Bandana skull, it’s a nightmare.
I’ve been spending hours trying to defeat Escharum, but he’s too fast.

Even with grappling and then jumping for more distance, he catches up way too fast.
I had a strategy that worked for a short time with the Thrusters, but because of the ridiculous cooldown and hammer reach, I died as soon as I used my second Thruster.

The bosses in other Halo games are nothing compared to the ones in Infinite.

I have jumped on the walls. Took me some tries to get it right. He threw infinite grenades at me, until he didn’t. Anyway, it’s stupid. We shouldn’t have to resort to that in the first place.

I agree.
It’s like they designed the bosses to not be able to be defeated on Legendary without a lot of luck, cheating (e.g. Bandana skull or the tank gun) or using something wrong with the AI and map.

Something about Escharum needs to be nerfed.
Maybe how quickly he turns around, how much range his leap covers, the damage his close attacks do, or whether or not a sword can cancel his close hammer attacks.

I’d say his running speed could be nerfed, but I think it makes sense for him to run fast when he’s sort of berserk, and I’d say he shouldn’t have infinite grenades, but that would mean the only strategy to defeat him without luck or cheating is to get him to use all of his grenades and then hide on a wall, which doesn’t seem right either.

is that not what the basic grunts, elite’s and brute’s also not have infinite grenades?

i have defeat escharum on legendary 2 time’s and thats without the bandana skull on.
and got no problem with the spike grenate’s he was trowing on me when i also got the catch skull on was it no problem at all for me.

Bring a chaingun from basic and advanced training into the fight, during the last phase you can use it on him and it will constantly stagger him.

there is also a chaingun in the same room same with the plasma one.

the point is easy that you drop then more on the 4 power spots before you start the fight and when the time’s come when he is using the hammer you only need to stand on one off the power core’s spots you destroy before and use grapelhook to pick the chaingun or plasma that is close to you and then its done more.

I’ve tried that.
I think there are even three of them in the room you fight him in.
1 UNSC and 2 Plasma.
The only thing that I’ve used that staggers him enough to make a difference is the Rocket Launcher, but there’s only one in the room, and there are only 4 shots.

The weapon I’ve gotten closest to defeating him with was the AR, but every time I get him down to a sliver of health, he leaps more than halfway across the room to me (no exaggeration) and hits me with the hammer’s wave, even if I dodge behind him.

I’ve tried that, but I keep sliding down.
The only areas above him I can stand on are the walls with the walkways under them, but when I try to grapple to the other wall, he immediately throws another grenade.

So far, the closest thing to a strategy has been using grapple on those walls to fling me to the other half of the room and dodge his hammer, but it doesn’t always work, because he’ll jump before the grapple activates, not move far enough to let me get out of range, or stop moving while I grapple which makes me move towards him.

Took me around 25 minutes of mindlessly emptying magazine after magazine into him. Purely because he is a bullet sponge. This goes for all the bosses too.

This game has the worst boss balance/design of any boss-fight based game out there. It’s pure garbage.

I feel the same way. I am going to assume they didn’t have the time to properly refine them before release, because I refuse to believe that anyone at 343 could be ok with that.
