How did you defeat Escharum on legendary and how lucky were you?

After like 50,000 tries i finally defeated Escharum on a fluke, went to pick up rockets that was laying on the floor and accidentally picked up Jega ‘Rdomnai’s sword so had no choice but to slice n dice him since he was already on top of me and miraculously survived a face to face hammer slam for the kill.

After he destroyed me once with his lightspeed, undodgeable heat-seeking ability from all of the way across the room, I defeated Escharum with hit-and-run strikes. The trick was to stay out of his line of sight no matter what.

Get behind cover, wait until he comes right around the corner, hit him hard with high damage weapons, retreat to the other side, and repeat.

I don’t think I ever noticed the rockets when I was playing on legendary. Probably would’ve been a nice help but hey, first playthroughs you don’t realize some of these things, lol. I mostly just knocked his health down with the BR until he pulled out the hammer. Then I made use of the Skewers until the ammo ran out, then used my BR until he died.

it seemed like the br was doing nothing for me…fusion coils, skewer, rockets and the sword is what did it for me

i tried that and every single time i would get stuck on the most random things and get slaughtered

Always use sensors to keep an eye on where he is at all times.
Run around the outer circle in the arena, get to the other side of the long hallways of it with Escharum on the other side of the hallway, use fully upgraded dropwall and blast him with the br until he gets close, the drop wall goes away or until he destory the drop wall, use grapple to get away to the other side of the cirlce, wait for him to show up and repeat until last phase, last phase is basically the same, but you gotta be super fast with swapping from grapple to drop wall to sensor to grapple and so on. I messed this up when he was 2 shots away from dying and got greedy and kept shooting as he just leapt and smashed me with the hammer. Got him next try tho.

dash, another dash, and a few more dashes. finish it off with a few subtle strikes from the previous boss’ energy sword, which I saved because I thought there would be an achievement for killing ecsharum with it. no luck, just dashing. using the invis on the dash to get away when my health was low helped during the first phase. the second phase, I either survived the hammer and dashed away to hide, or died instantly. took me maybe 4 tries. fusion coils are your best friend as well.

Having upgraded all my equipment long in advance, the first part was very easy between his slow movements with the Scrap Cannon and my grappleshot/stealth thrusters to get out of sight and attack when I wanted - usually with a Drop Wall placed at the ready and unloading on him safely behind it. I actually found the shock-infused Needler to take him out of the first half of the fight pretty quickly.

Second part was much like Bassus: just grappleshotting around and sliding to get that distance with some Thrusters to cloak me and disappear from his sight. Picked up the rocket launcher and kept blasting him at every opportune moment until he died.

May’ve taken me about half a dozen tries, if not less. The one boss fight I died the most on was Harbinger but not because of Harbinger but that damn Brute Chieftain that was backed up with Elites and Skimmers with Shock/Stalker Rifles.

Oh, and the random weapons that my Grappleshot would pick up from the floor and get me killed of course.

The disruptor. Put a few shots into him, grapple across the map, another few shots, repeat. Because of the damage over time you don’t need to hit him that many times to do sustained damage, so you’re not leaving yourself open for long at all before you’re back on the move.

Picked apart his health constantly grapplin the ceiling n swingin over him.

I did heroic and it wasn’t that hard after my third try. I realized how sluggish I was on controller, so I went to mouse and keyboard and then I was just Spiderman-ing my way around the map so fast I couldn’t even keep up with myself. At one point I was out of options of weapons (My sensitivity was so fast some point when he runs at me with hammer, I would just flick and miss), he was like 1% from dying! I wanted be to be dramatic so I did a grapple slam on him and it killed him! I was happy my first kill on him was a cool one

But damn you could say mechanics won the fight, I couldn’t do it with how slow I was on controller

On the first half, when he used the scrap hammer, I abused the aim calculation the AI has after I got some distance by making small strafe movements to throw off the projectiles massively. While peppering him with heavy weapons.
Occasionally thrusting and grappling away.

Once he got to the hammer stage, I spent a lot of direct rockets on him, then a needler which put him in place due to the mini explosions. Also, frantically dash grapple dash ing around the outer circle. Never used the D-pad that much in any game before.

Just use the secret tank gun that you carry through from the beginning. Simple haha

Seriously though, have only done heroic and that was bad enough, I’m dreading legendary

Once I got the shield down I grabbed one of the many Disruptors around the room and used that.

It does more damage than most power weapons thanks to the DOT. Just need to land enough shots to trigger it here and there and it’ll keep working that health down while you’re busy grappling and thrusting to safety.

Methodically dropping sensors to keep better track of him through walls was helpful too. Especially when lining up a fusion coil around a corner.

There is a 90% chance the fight is over if he ever decides to leap at you though.

Has anyone tried making a massive pile of fusion coils where he drops down from?

I did that with jega and killed him instantly.

I think that could work well

I alternated between the dashes with invisibility and grappling away from him. Using the corner walls and that little hallway to kite him. Shot him a bunch and switched to the needles for his hammer phase.

Doesn’t work because of his shield phases.

Honestly the whole fight is just walking backwards, lureing him into the side area and grapple away every 3 seconds. It shows how bad such Bossfights fit into Halos gameplay. Whenever the coils open up you need to wait for him to go far enough behind a wall, giving you time to line up and throw a plasma nade into it.

I’d rather see challenging waves of enemys in special arenas, where you need to take out priority targets and make clever use of Weapons instead of… walk backwards and dodge backwards until the Boss is dead.

Next to Bassus this was the worst fight just by how boring it was. Other Bosses made you dodge or use cover, here it is: One man army, hero of humanity slowly joggs backwards and shoots at an angry old monkey.

I circled around ad infinitum because his health is so high. It was so boring. Boss fights were my least favorite aspect of this game.

I got extremely lucky and killed him with one shot.
