How did chief stab and pierce the sphere(forgot the proper name for the giant silver and orange sphere)? If you watched the recently released campaign trailer, you see chief stab the sphere while he is falling. Did chief stick his knife in one of the orange cracks, is it just made of weak material(i doubt that), or is his knife just really sharp?

I believe he pierced it by stabbing a knife into it.
why does it matter how? and we aren’t 100% positive it is the Crypum (that holds the didact) but even if it is, who cares?

The knife has to be made of some very durable, special future material, seeing as it can pierce Mark VI armor without a problem. Add chiefs super strength as well as we dont know what the material is made out of… Who knows?

Who cares? It doesn’t matter at all.
Well OP if Chief has enough power to punch through FUD’s hull to save himself at the end of Halo 3, which is 3ft thick and made out of titanium alloy. You can start to understand how powerful he really is, coupled with an incredibly sharp object. It’s easy to see how he could perforce such things with the knife. But I hope in Halo 5 humanity get’s rid of that primitive shard of metal and replaces it with Hardlight technology, just like the Forerunner’s: Hardlight lancer or the Elite’s: Energy sword and Dagger. Humanity needs to upgrade it’s weapon systems, especially after they have recovered so much Forerunner technology and are breading engineers to advance their own technology.
He doesn’t pierce the sphere, he pierces through a covenant phantom, the two scenes are not linked. you can see it from a different trailer, too.
