How could armour lock work?

I just want to see where everyone stands on this one…

I hate armour lock with a passion. My friends and i even started a clan called Anti-Lock, and we made a pact, that if we where playing a match and saw someone using armour lock, despite who we were fighting or what the objective was, we would hunt such players down an make thier life hell lol.

However, there are soooo many ways Armour lock could have been ok… Such as;

1 - One time use per life; Would last a bit longer, and mayby have a bigger EMP radius, but it would be un-spammable as its use would be a one off.

2 - When locked down, it would last a bit longer, but you would be locked in that stage untill it had finished, meaning people would know exactly when you were going to come out of it and could prepare accordingly. Would also have a longer recharge time. This would also make it un-spammable.

3 - Combination of; 5 second delay between uses, camera stays in first person (so you can not see around you in 3rd person to assess the situation), and whatever shields you have left get drained, rather than recharge. This would dissorientate and weaken you, meaning it would be a last ditch attempt sort of thing.

Those are just 3 examples, im sure 343 could find a balance between making it useful, not annoying as hell, and totally badass without being overpowered, but is it too little too late?

What would you guys prefer, Armour lock 2.0, or would you rather they just scrapped it completely…?

Armor lock sucks. Why try to make it work when it is the most hated AA?

Lol it will never work at all, AL is like a -Yoink!- every -Yoink- needs one.

> Armor lock sucks. Why try to make it work when it is the most hated AA?

like i said, i agree, but it just makes me sad to think how badass it could have been before it became so hated.

> Lol it will never work at all, AL is like a -Yoink!- every -Yoink!- needs one.

that made me lol haha

If by AL 2.0 you mean Overshield, then yes, but I highly doubt this is what you implied.

I wouldn’t hate AL nearly as much if it was once per life and only lasted about 2 seconds.

Ways to make Armor Lock work?

How about not putting it in the game? To this day, AL is the main thing that makes me mad on Reach. Camo campers and run-in-the-face-of-danger sprinters don’t even make me bat an eye, but when someone becomes an invulnerable rock that can, at any moment, pop out and kill you I start to have issues.

lol perhaps? an overshield you could reuse during the game though could prove overpowered, so the “locking of the armour” could more restrict movement rather than lock up completely and slow you down or something to balance it?

haha again, same here, but what happens when they cant “pop out at any moment”, but after say, 5 seconds regardless of when they want to pop out, and theres a distinct sound so you know exactly when they are going to pop up, and when the do, they have no shields and no idea where you have relocated to because they were in first person and couldnt see sfa lol?

Then at that point it’s as useless as active hologram and there wouldn’t even be a point of putting it in.

I have thought about this quite a bit and here’s what I think.

  1. Have armor lock be brought to only 2 uses with a 1.5 minute refill time.

  2. Armor lock only last for about 1 second(maybe 1.5)
So armor lock would only be useful to stop nades or a rocket flying at you.
With a very short active time you couldn’t use it at random times and stop the action.

  3. Keep the recovery frames as you are going out of armor lock.

  4. Have the refill time of armor lock stay active even if you die.
This would stop people from being rewarded for making mistakes. “Oh this player out played me and naded me while in this hall way. eh it’s ok I’ll have armor lock refilled now that i’m dead.”

EDIT: I would much rather not see it in H4

The only way I can see armor lock working is if it ran off of shields, no shields equals no armor lock, you burn through your shields as you armor lock, and when they are gone, you pop out of armor lock, with over loaded shields, and emp every thing around you.

You could turn off the emp or make it so you must stay in AL until it runs out.

It won’t work.

The best way for Armor Lock to work is to not have it at all. It was a unique concept from Bungie, but the end product was just a disaster.

I’m not an ‘Armor Lock is for noobs who can’t play!!’ but I would be happy if it didn’t make a return in Halo 4. The overshield is a better solution if you ask me.

Ha ha ha, oh wow!

Anti vehicle and ordinance ONLY, so no EMP, and melee’s can get through it for assasinations, and you loose radar and cant turn around and look.

It was meant to be an anti-vehicle ability so if they made it playlist specific like BTB or map specific to maps that are open and vehicle heavy, I don’t see a problem.

1st person view.

One use per charge.

Damage wears down the duration.

EMP only on vehicles.

This way, it would actually, god forsakingly finally be used for what it was meant. Survive an attack from a power weapon/nade spamming/vehicle -Yoink!-.

Different people like different things…

I dis like all AA’s but I don’t make the game I just play it…

Only time will tell …

What 343i does with H4
