How could an AI be made organic?

Alot of people are saying that Cortana could possibly become an actual Human. But how could an AI be able to made made into an organism? It seems far easier to turn an organism into an AI/synthetic than the reversal. I don’t think Cortana is returning by the way, but if that’s how she could come back as stated above, how would that even be possible?

Theoretically, a organic body could be cloned and its nervous system connected to a robotic brain could it not?

Human AI’s in the Halo universe are essentially copies of Human neural patterns. Not that much of a stretch really to imagine even Humanities science being able to plop an AI into a flash cloned person. Throw in the Forerunner -Yoink- crazy science and it’s not hard to imagine at all.
It’s certainly not a rare thing in science fiction. SG1 did it, SGA as well… And Trek on multiple occasions.

With that said I doubt the writers of Halo would go that far… They don’t seem particularly willing to pull off major scifi plot twists in the games. Gotta account for all the dummies who aren’t actual scifi fans who play.

I see at least a couple of paths - whatever technique was used to imprint some memories onto the kids during the original cloning technique is option 1 (clone a body, imprint memories). Would be particularly successful using Halsey’s body, as Cortana is based on Halsey’s brain. I may be misremembering whether or not the replacement kids had any memories, but they must have had something to be able to have language skills, and even Naomi’s replacement had language skills. For that matter, Halsey’s brain wouldn’t have been much use as an AI template if it didn’t have all the connections it had made as a person . . . and those connections would be memories and skills.

Option 2 - reverse and partial composition (as in only take the personality / brain components). Yes it creates unstable persons, but it would do the trick.

Option 3 - clone the body/ brain, perform the surgery (as per John-117, and have the AI chip run the blank slate brain.

We haven’t got enough info on neural interface tech to give a proper answer. Bungie invented it because Combat Evolved’s plot required to you find Keyes’ body; after that it’s barely been mentioned. Probably part of the wider design decision to keep the UNSC grounded and non-futuristic.

Moreover, Cortana could inhabit any drone or computer system, so (sentimentality aside) it’s not clear why anybody would be interested in giving her a squishable human body in the first place.

Well, the Librarian said “the Composer had been intended to bridge the organic and digital realms. It would have made us immortal. But its results soured. The stored personalities fragmented, and our attempts to return them into biological states created only abominations”. Different context but we know for certain the Forerunners failed in their endeavor. However it looks like the composer’s issue was the fragmentation of the personalities, which might be avoided if you have an intact AI to use in the first place. So if humanity were to only do the latter part of the Forerunner’s attempts, skipping the composing, then they might just succeed.

The only way I see that happening is taking the AI’s cognitive data and moving it to an intact body. Not sure if that would work with Smart AIs since, well, processing, but a ‘dumb’ AI would make a decently intelligent human.

Yes it could but the brain pattern should replaced with the one of the AI…I think.

Worked for the Bicentennial Man.

yeah but were never gonna be able to recreate nervous system in 2558, but robots could be created

Well at the beginning of the mission requim in halo 4 cortona says she is the only AI to be cloned from a human life form docter Halsey to be specific

Maybe if the AI reached metastability and if the composers reverse function worked.

Sort of ran into this same problem in Heinlein’s Time Enough for Love. An AI named Minerva wants to become a person so she can make love to her boss, Ira. Don’t question it. Haven’t seen it come to fruition yet but evidently a cloned body can be made and some, but not all, of her memories can be transferred to a human brain. She would still have to learn how to walk, talk and other things even with an adult body, however.

The issue in the Halo universe is that flash cloned humans suffer from Metabolic Cascade Failure.

Also, the first part is the weirdest thing I’ve read in a long time.

can you give some example about how the clones in halo are and how much they resemble humans internally

Then you haven’t read much of Heinlein and should. And of course the clones in Halo suffer from difficulties, but if they were able to work around that then it may be possible.

So now the new question is how (or when) does cloning become perfected in the Halo Universe. I mean it’s not like we can just go to Kamino and place an order. (That would be interesting… ) So, if Cortana was somehow, someway get into an organic body, it would have to take some fancy Forerunner science magic. (And a little help from everyone’s favorite Doc Halsey. She’d probably be needed too.)
