Maybe it’s simply because they don’t want to. I don’t want sometimes anyone speaking to my ear, telling me what to do and what not. Sometimes I don’t wanna hear memes, static or things liek that right to my ears and i don’t want to speak and just relax and play the game. It isn’t because of any ranking system or things like that, just sometimes I don’t feel like it.
Who wants to hear each other yell and scream over a guy who:
Got a powerweapon in OD
or a guy with a boltshot
or a guy cross mapping with a DMR
or a guy with camo
or a guy with plasmas
or a guy with Plasma pistol
Honestly I think they do use a favor when they dont talk on the mic
(except on throwdown)
Ugh, you killed me you Yoink!ing idiot! -Yoink!- Yoink! you Yoink!
I (goes on to explain the activities he had done with your mother last night).
Sometimes I get games with mature people using a mic, but the first scenario alone was enough to discourage use of the mic for me. I’m not taking any chances having a 10-year old blasting obscenities through my ear drums.
I usually don’t because I play with headphones in. But I just bought a turtle beach headset that should solve my issues. I’ll have a mic in all the time now, even though most others won’t.
I play with my friends in party chat? That and essentially no one really uses their mics for call outs or any helpful information, just constant dribbling about stuff I could care less about.
I haven’t had anyone properly communicate in a game since early days of Reach.

all my friends who started playing post-reach just go quiet when we meet some randoms, while the guys who has been playing for longer start chatting/trash talking with the randoms
sucks that you and your friends hide in your little party instead of talking to my posse man
If I’m playing seriously, I need to hear the game environment. If not, well, Halo time is me time. I didn’t come home from a long day of school/work to hear people drivel on about nonsense.
Sometimes I get a headache from listening to people talk, even friends in a party. What they are saying is not the problem, just the ear piece being close to my ear can cause my head to hurt after a while. So unless I am in party, I just avoid the physical pain entirely. Even when I am in party sometimes I tell them I am going off mic and just keeping quiet. Hick, I even mute the sound effects and announcer tracks entirely.
I generally enter MM with a mic but only keep it on if i meet someone worth talking to. For the most part halo chat now resembles cod chat. Nothing usefull, just high pitched squealing about whatever awesome feat of pro-leet epicness they fluked and are now trying to convince the world it was skill.
I get tired of hearing people rage at the other team in my ear, or rage at their own team because they’re not following their useless strategies, getting the power weapons first, etc. I hate whiny kid voices.
I especially hate saying once statement and having a bunch of racist comments sprayed at me calling me the n-word, etc (my accent gives me away). When I’m playing with randoms, I never use my mic, and when I’m with someone I know, I use a party chat. I learned my lesson back on Reach.
