How come my spartan does the assasination animatio

Is there a way i can turn of the assassination animation ? i thought by clicking the melee butting i would do a simple melee from behind and quickly take out the enemy.
In CTF games when my team is pulling flag and i somehow end up behind two or three enemy spartans in my head i have it planned out i melee this guy and take out the other one with my pistol.
I hit melee and for some reason my spartan decides he wants to do a fatality on the guy and i end up dying because my spartan thinks its mortal kombat.

So you never checked your controller settings?
Never changed button layout or sensitivity?
Otherwise it would help to open your eyes and read whats written in the options

i thought you ha to hold the melee button to do the animation.

Sometimes that happens, I think we’re under so much pressure sometimes we don’t realize how long we hold the button.
