How Classic Armor Should Be Earned (+Bonuses)

In Halo: Combat Evolved, we wore the MJOLNIR Powered Assault Armor/Mark V. In Halo 2-Halo 3, it was the Mark VI. In Halo 3: ODST, it was, obviously, the ODST armor. The armor (or at least the helmets) will return in Halo 4, but how will we earn it? This is my idea.

The Mark IV armor, as well as an armor skin resembling this color scheme, is unlocked by completing Halo Wars’s Campaign on Normal or higher.

The Mark V armor, as well as a skin resembling Halo 2’s primary/secondary color scheme(?) seen here, is unlocked by completing Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary’s Campaign on Normal or higher.

The Mark VI armor, as well as a skin resembling Halo 3’s primary/secondary color scheme seen here, is unlocked by completing Halo 3’s Campaign on Normal or higher. Additionally, an extra weapon skin is unlocked by unlocking all of the skulls in Halo 3.

The ODST armor (or at least something similar-looking, and definately with Halo: Reach*'s version of the ODST helmet), is unlocked by completing Halo 3:ODST’s Campaign on Normal or higher. Additionally, an extra weapon skin can be unlocked by obtaining 500,000+ points in Firefight.
The [Mark V armor (with the FJ/PARA kneeguards, because the default kneeguards look like they cover less than my thumb), along with a skin resembling the primary/secondary color scheme seen here, are unlocked by completing Halo: Reach’s Campaign on Normal or harder, Additionally, two exclusive weapon skins can be unlocked by completing Halo: Reach’s Campaign on Heroic or higher.
And, two bonuses, upon completion of Halo 4’s Campaign on Legendary (and yes, I know these drawings are old as fahk): Spartan, based off the SPARTAN programn’ namesake; and Viking, a nod to the use of Viking mythology to name various elements of the SPARTAN program (i.e. Gungnir, Mjolnir, etc.)
Would this work? I think so. Unfortunately, however, in the event that this comes to pass, it’s very likely that 343i will insist on this armor being Waypoint-exclusive content, which, personally, pisses me off. So here’s my suggestion (and this should probably be implemented for the Reach armor, too): upon fulfilment of the armor’s requirements, you are given the option to download the content onto your XBox, making it available for all accounts on said XBox.](http://www.halopedian.com/images/d/de/Default_Noble_6.png)

I like it

I like it because then I wouldn’t have to work for anything seeing as I already did everything.

I like those ideas. I think that you should get different things for the helmet based on the achievements.

Like base helmet is earned by beating campaign on Normal, helmet attachments by beating it on Heroic, and a skin along with chest and shoulder pieces by beating it on Legendary.

Although I’ll be honest, I wouldn’t mind it if these helmets were unlocked by beating each game on legendary. It would be something to be proud of.

Either way I hope these helmets return.

gears did something similar.

> gears did something similar.

That’s partially where the inspiration came from, yes. Also partially because it would seem realistic, because it would help encourage players to buy the neccesary games. And, as we all know, Microsoft is… well, for want of a better word, greedy.

> gears did something similar.

Nobody is FORCING you to do anything. It’s called a reward for a reason.
Personally I like the idea. For those who haven’t played ce-reach it could give them motive to play them.

I would like rewards for Waypoint Career also.

And give some extra attachments for beating it on Legendary maybe…

Didn’t they do that for Reach, but only for 2 helmets?

I don’t, personally. In my opinion, rewards earned exclusively through Waypoint seem unfair towards non-XBox Live players.

Two helmets and a chestpiece. Probably the best-looking chestpiece in the game.

Similar to the halo reach armor unlock by achievements
Awesome idea

You know, what Reach did with the Military Police and CQB armour was a good idea. The only problem was they were the worst looking armour out of the whole lot.

I think Halo 4 could do something similar with the achievements like Reach. But this time make more armour unlock able and better looking armour.

I won’t deny that needing Achievements from other games was a good idea. Gears of War did a similar thing. However (and I can’t stress enough my disappointment on Bungie’s choice), depending on Waypoint for unlockables is unfair. For emblems or weapon skins, and maybe for Recon, it could work. But for such iconic armor, everyone should have a chance to earn it.

There’s definitely method to unlock things through achievements. I don’t know why they required Waypoint in Reach.

I don’t want to go through a separate system. That’s what LIVE is for.

I don’t care how they’re unlocked as I while probably have all of them anyway aside from any Halo Wars related.

Great post man.

I love these styles of unlocks, being rewarded for certain achievements is lovely

I’m not entirely sure why Halo Wars counts with Waypoint. True, it’s a Halo game, but it wasn’t Bungie-made or 343i-made (not sure about the latter, actually).

I like this concept, i remember how hard i worked for my recon armor in halo 3 and it was really rewarding having armor that i actually worked for. it just makes you feel good.

> And, preferably, not earned though Waypoint. Because honestly, Waypoint-exclusive rewards aren’t fair towards non-XBox Live players.

Halo Waypoint is the only way to tie all of the Halo games together because it provides a back-end for the data to be transferred between titles and rewards given to you for things that you have done in other titles. That’s part of the reason why Halo Waypoint was made, so as to cover a greater Halo experience.

I can respect that. But the concept of Waypoint-exclusive armor is, to be frank, an annoying one. Especially for machinima directors, I imagine.
