I keep running into threads where I see people talking about lifespan of games and staying power of certain features and what needs to be done to make this game better and increase its longevity!
I don’t mean the be rude but… WTF do you know about such thing!
I don’t want to call out users but you’ll know I’m talking to you if you have any sort of self-awareness!
Do you have a degree in some pseudo science that makes you have an insight in this specific industry, or some kind of psychology degree which you can use to determine online gamers social behavior and habits, or maybe you can just predict the future!
I don’t know how you other people feel but I’m pretty tired of reading the same posts over and over again which goes something like this: “This Game needs <input feature here> to give this game staying-power and longevity it will just end up like <insert game here>!”
How do you know this was the reason that game failed!
HOW!
Tell me how to find this information, enlighten my clouded mind and share with me your sources so I may be better for it!
The worst part is that it is constantly the same user creation new posts about basically the same thing, you know who you are!
Face it you’re just a disgruntled gamer who doesn’t really have any insight to this industry and just wants them to make the game to suit your preferences and that’s FINE!
It’s fine to want features in games but I’ve reach my boiling point with you people, stop re-creating the same -Yoinking!- post over and over again and stop sounding like you know stuff cause you don’t know -Yoink-!
But you know who does know some -Yoink-… yes you guessed it… 343i and their competent employees who’s been in this business for a while and have been entrusted with this franchise for a reason!
I don’t know about you guys but Monday can’t come fast enough for me!
I don’t pretend I know what others want. I speak only for myself and I know that without a visible rank (even if it’s just visible to me) I probably won’t play mm past the 6 month mark. That’s what happened with Reach. Not asking for any sympathy just offering my opinions.
I can’t speak for the community as a whole, but on a personal level, the lack of visible ranking system means less incentive to keep playing once the gameplay itself has become dull.
I’m one of those people who stopped playing Reach after not too long, partially because the gameplay got dull and in addition to that, there was no 1-50 (like Halo 3, which helped me) and that main rank system for an armor piece like every 100 freaking games wasn’t enough.
Adding a visible ranking system can only help keep me playing. I don’t see how it can make me play less.

History.
Also you took his personal opinion out of context to a global truth. He said he will probably stop playing after 6 month, just like what he did with halo Reach. Context is important. You can take anyone’s statement out of context to spin it, for example (from your OP):
> It’s fine to want features in games
I agree with this, and it’s because I want features in games that I am upset that 343 removed so many in Halo 4. Excellent point, sir.

I know I probably wont play past the 6 month mark… I mean GTA 5 is coming out in the spring.

I still don’t understand where people got the idea that reach failed because of a missing ranking system!
I admit I stopped playing reach pretty fast I never even bothered with map packs but I never even touched raked games in halo 3 and I still played that until Halo: Reach
launch.
To be honest I still don’t know what reach was missing but for me at least it wasn’t a ranking system!

Neither does skins or armor customization, but I’m sure it’s a big thing for some people.
Welcome to the Halo (and more appropriate… Gaming) Community.
It seems that everyone thinks that they are right and knows what everyone likes/dislikes and wants. It’s just ridiculous. People are saying they’ll leave the forums or not buy the game to see if they can get a reaction from people. Everyone is upset that custom game options have gone, a ranking system has been replaced with a progression system.
Does no one buy games for the story anymore?
You know, I remember when games where meant to be fun, something used to entertain yourself and a game to play with friends. Now games have to cater to pathetic ‘pros’ who want competitive multiplayer only.

Would you pay $60 for a 6 hour campaign? Today multiplayer is priority and single player takes a back seat for most games.

I think the basic change of formula in Reach was the ultimate downfall. People can say that it was because “of no real ranking system” but in all honesty, I seen threads on armor lock, bloom, slow movement speed and low jump height and lack of weapons before I even started seeing people complain about rank. hell, even Jetpack had more complaint threads before ranking did.
Summary: The mechanics killed Reach, not the Ranking system (And this is coming from someone who really enjoyed Reach for what it was)

Take me for example:
I play Call of Duty despite not being a huge fan. I do it more for friends. The gameplay is nothing more than an unbalanced casual fest for me. Yet I managed to play Black Ops for 465 hours in multiplayer because I wanted to finish reaching max Prestige more than anything (playing w/ friends was another incentive that kept me around even past that).
Same thing with other games. Gameplay might get stale but a rank system might be incentive to stick around, keep playing, and prolong enjoyment. If Reach wasn’t so great because of the gameplay, at least a good ranking system (the one it had was crappy to me), then maybe I would have played it longer.

While I agree with that I really don’t agree with the other part. I mean I know it’s happening but I really hate it.
But honestly $60 if you are only going to like the campaign is a lot of money for me. If it’s going to be short and honestly have near identical gameplay as the last 5 halos then it’s not enough to to buy the game, it needs the multiplayer to extend it’s play value.
Now with games like Mass Effect, Red Dead, Skyrim and other games that offer larger more dynamic single player experiences they’re well worth the $60 for the campaign.
Why are people saying Reach is dead anyway? I have been playing it for the past two months and having a great time.
I expect Halo 4 will be booming with life for the first 6 months and like every other game will die down over time. It makes sense, but I like the Halo sandbox enough that it always brings me back. Me and my friends really enjoy the game, and it isn’t going to change if there is a ranking system or not.
I do enjoy a ranking system, but the problems it causes are greater than the satisfaction I get from saying “I’m better than you!”
Being an adult, I don’t need a number or rank to tell me how good I am. I need to make more kills than deaths. That’s good enough for me.
