Lol and then respawn once the area is clear

I think this thread is intended to provide ideas on how he can be made into a better character. Not state whether he is or isn’t. Besides, better is a relative term. Better than who?

It’s true. I hated Locke at first, but then I realized it’s because I was imagining him as something that he wasn’t. He simply is a highly skilled soldier who wants to do what’s right (As seen on Nightfall). He had orders to bring back the Master Chief. Ultimately he succeeded in that (I’m just grateful it turned into saving the Master Chief and not capturing him). If you take the ads away and just look at Nightfall and Halo 5 he isn’t that bad of a guy. That’s just my opinion now.

> If anything, Fireteam Osiris should have been introduced via a side game (Halo: Osiris) so that fans of the franchise could warm up to them. It even would have given proper time to develop the characters. Halo 5: Guardians was not the right way to do it. Hell, even Buck had a side game.
You know what would have been cool and easy? Replacing Spartan Strike’s entire premise and making Locke the protagonist, starting when he was a brand-new Spartan. He trains in scenarios that take him throughout Halo history to see if he can match up to the Spartans that came before him, and understand the decisions they had to make.
Spartan Strike was an utterly pointless cash-grab as far as I could tell, so that would’ve been a much better use of our time and the dev’s.

By the tone of the OP, I’d say better than he, his self, currently is.
MO is that Locke can only redeem himself (for me) by doing one thing. Openly admitting that he never should have spoken the words “Every target is just another target.” to Buck.
That statement, to me, irreparably damaged his character from the moment he uttered it. From a very early point in the game, it set the tone for him as nonchalant, cool, distant and disconnected from the reality of the situation. Not to mention it came across as unnecessarily brash and cocky.
So many people seem to defend him and the other members of Osiris with things like ‘oh, they can smash a banshee’ or perform some other physical feat… no, that doesn’t count IMO. Whether or not I knew they could do that is irrelevant. Unless it’s something that only the Spartan in question is capable of doing, that no other Spartan could… it doesn’t count.
Not that I’m not impressed by the fact that they’re capable of such things… but then again, the tone has already been set by Locke. A nonchalant, just doing my job tone that basically implies; No matter what he or any other member of Osiris does throughout the game, it’s just another day at the office… in pursuit of “just another target.” Yet some people wonder why he fails to impress.
smoke some weed and then BAM!!! he will blow your mind away…LOL
How can Locke be a better character?
Leave.
Simple: Don’t let Brian Reed write the story

Well, yeah, I knew that. It was just that the person that I quoted said that Locke isn’t a better character, which doesn’t tell me anything because they didn’t provide a point of reference.

> Spartan Locke is a legend he could assassinate the UNSC’s governmental leader with just a pencil and no armor.
This was hilarious!
Give the spartan unique abilities , to be greater his admiration , or have skills in your viewfinder, or something like that , that spartan in his armor has something different, or simply give him more action
People didn’t hate the Arbiter in Halo 2, they didn’t even hate playing as him. What they hated was finishing the game as him!
Personally I loved Halo 2 at the time very much, except for the above mentioned not finishing the game as the Chief.
I think when you saw that the Arbiter was the one who failed to stop the Chief and that whole opening of the Chief receiving his commendation juxtaposed with the Arbiter being stripped of his rank and status, it really added depth to the character of the Arbiter. You got to understand what was motivating the Arbiter, you also got an inside look at the Covenant.
Locke had none of that, he felt like a cardboard cut out. His scenes of being bad -Yoink- felt forced and fake.

^ This. I didn’t hate the Arbiter at all. Just hated you couldn’t finish the game (or fight Tartarus) as the Chief.
Locke’s character development has been handled very poorly. Like a few people have said before, his “every target” line really turned me off, and had him pegged for who he was: Ex-ONI assassin with only regard for his orders and nothing else. Chief has more compassion in his pinky nail than Locke does. Locke barely pays lip service to the reverence and respect MC garners, and his transition to not just wanting to stop the Chief, but to save him and bring him home was only due to Halsey’s request. Besides the fact 343i -Yoinked!- out Jul M’Dama like Marvel Studios did to Baron Von Strucker in Avengers Age of Ultron was a HUGE disappointment (should have been a boss fight and not a Didact like scene) the way Locke took out M’Dama and the way he fought the Chief WAS bad–Yoink-. The problem is it’s for a character I don’t identify with and don’t really care about.

Not completely true but could possibly work. As you see it takes more than time it takens what people came to like the Master Chief or John.
hello I don’t know you personally but what it sounds like as you’re one of those guys who gets really into the game and slams the buttons slams The Sticks I got a buddy who does the same thing. I bought the original white Xbox I think he was Master Chief collection and the original white controller with no 3.5mm Jack, thenI bought the lunar white controller when that ccac out and I bought the Locke controller because I just thought it looked cooler than Master Chief I like Master Chief better. but even after my little nieces and nephews play with it for a year and a there is nothing wrong with my controllers they all work perfectly no drifting nothing. I take meticulous care of my things
