Yeah, the Walking Toaster.
if they just kill off the chief already or have him step down then people can at least begin to let go. hes not the same chief from the first 3 games. we all know this, you can only save humanity so many times before its burnt out. just give him his medals and let him go be lazy. a couple cameos would be awesome tho. lets just lay him down to rest already. thats the first step towards making locke or whoever taking the star role get a nice warm spot in everyones hearts. having locke attack our beloved chief is kind of taking a step in the opposite direction.
It doesn’t matter if it’s Locke or any other spartan… Halo games (main) are built around Masterchief. To answer your question, the only way, imho, for Locke to be a better character is to not be playable. This applies to any other character. If we MUST play as someone other than MC, at least split missions 50% each.
I think he is a good character, just needs time. He also needs some epic quotes. He needs some lessons from Half-Jaw on sick -Yoink- Halo quotes
To me, Locke seemed more Master Chief than Chief in Halo 5. He had couple memorable lines, killed some bad guys and saved the day, without showing a shred of personality or questioning orders. Problem is, we’ve already seen this guy in Halo 1-3. We don’t want 343i’s Chief, we want something fresh.
Back in 2001, being this silent, mysterious super-soldier was amazing. MC personified badassery. Unfortunately it’s no longer 2001, it’s 2016. And being a sparten in Halo 5 - at least to me - doesn’t feel as special, unless I’m MC (perhaps that’s just nostalgia) . The other 7 spartans - with the possible exception of Buck- are not interesting. I don’t care about them. At all. 343i, that’s a problem. It’s no longer cool to be a sparten just 'cause we’re spartens. We need more. Put some life and personality in your characters - make them your own.
Locke and the other spartens need to be more than the new MCs for first time Halo players because that’d just be a waste of their potential.
Best way to truly make Locke a great character is to include more story about him and his team into the actual game and not have to worry about reading the books or watching the TV series. Honestly some people just don’t have that kind of time just to do those things. But Locke has potential even though when I first saw Locke’s armor I thought he was a woman…Shame he isn’t; it would of been interesting to see a female main protagonist instead of a male main protagonists like in previous Halos.
Locke isn’t really a bad character.
But when comparing him to the Arbiter we need to remember something important. Thel was an entirely different species with a COMPLETELY different perspective. Locke is merely a human, and he has a familiar perspective. You really can’t compare the two. But Locke is not a waste of space.
I think Locke has quite a bit of potential, and I like him a fair bit.

Don’t you understand that killing the master chief means killing halo?
Hmm…I think they should make a halo game where you play as the arbiter or rtas 'vadam like sort of H3: ODST but elite style
Locke shares many character traits with the Master Chief so it shouldn’t be to hard for 343 to improve his character, I think it literally is just a case of we shouldn’t be hostile to his character just because he is a potential threat to Master Chief.
We need to give him a fair amount of time for his character and motives to be shown, if he is still not likable after all that then by all means the hate is justified.
Hes a million times better than Palmer, because hes not a -Yoink- to Chief

He Slapped Chief’s helmet.

But Chief Destroyed a Halo Ring, The Ark, Didact, Gravemind & some other stuff he did that I frogot…so Chief is a Bad***
I do believe Locke is a good character and can be badass, but I think that Halo 5 should have had more Chief based missions

Not everyone likes a badass infact Commander Sarah Palmer was intended to be almost or intended to be a replacement of Sergent Major Johnson but everyone HATES Palmer this will not work.
I actually think hes pretty cool as he is
Actually a decent guy
-
Halo: Nightfall- gives everyone an actual fair chance of escaping in the 2 seater vehicle - Rediculously patient and polite with Governor Sloan - Notices Buck is falling behind while escaping, comes back for himHas insane respect for Master Chief.
-
“You’re not the only one here because of him” Locke at some point in the campaign
-
Buck -What are we gonna do ask politely?
Locke-Shows off armour restraint device
-
FASTFORWARD*
Locke- Sir, you are absent without leave. This is your one chance to come home peacefully
-
Basically asks politely, doesn’t consider using armour restraint until Chief ruthlessly destroys Lockes gun on his head and causes the ensuing fisticuffs* - Despite the order to bring him back, he brings him to Halsey like she asked instead (which actually may have been because the Infinity was unreachable but I’ll stick it here anyway)
There are more reasons i like the guy, but it’s late and I’m tired.
its simple he cant be improved

Exactly … Master Chief destroyed THREE … Installation 04, Installation 04b, and Installation 03 … THREE Halo rings, the Ark, Didact, Gravemind, and other things you forgot … he is THE badass of the universe, and Locke cracked HIS visor. What does that say? That’d be like saying I gave Muhammad Ali a wedgie.
I won’t say he really needs improving… It’s just that his voice always seemed kinda monotonous. He didn’t really sound like he had any emotions, unlike his team members. I realize Chief was kinda like this in CE-3, but he did sound like he had some emotions. Locke… Ehhh… Maybe not as much. Though, to be fair, Locke has only had one game, while Chief has had five.

It IS (or should be) Your choice. If you’ve played Halo Reach, you can wear what ever you’ve earned, but when you look up Noble SIx/B312, Microsoft/Bungie has HIS (their) “cannon” armor on Display. However, for gameplay isn’t it more fun “being yourself”?
