How can I get better with the Battle Rifle?

I’ve recently been trying out the Halo 2 Anniversary playlist and it seems that Slayer BRs is the most popular game mode. Seeing as I am absolutely terrible with the Battle Rifle, I thought I’d come here and ask for some advice.

So I’ve got the basics down: aim for the head, don’t miss. What else can I do to obtain some sort of advantage? I see a lot of side-to-side movement from my opponents, you guys refer to this as “strafing” (although to me that’s more of an air vehicle term). Is that all there is or is there more to it?

Well I see you said aim for the head. Now while that’s good advice, the final shot (assuming all 4 shots connected) is what needs to be in the head.

Since you’re trying to get better, just know that 3 body shots and the 4th in the head will yield a 4-shot kill. Perhaps this will make your engagements a little better, since the body is an easier target than the head.

I never really thought about that. I’ll start aiming for center mass for the first three bursts. Perhaps that’ll help improve my accuracy. Thanks.

It took me a good 2 years of playing halo with only the BR starts to get really good with it

Haha, I’m hoping it doesn’t take me that long. I’ve used BRs before, I’m just making sure that there’s no key strategy that I’ve missed before I come to terms with the idea that I just suck.

I find that the Battle Rifle can be Extremely useful in most situations, Another good tip is to Pay attention to the Lines in the middle of the reticule. You can use the Up and Down lines for when they Jump, And the Left to Right lines for when they strafe. I hope that will help you out!

And your post mentioned H2A but in case you don’t know, you have to lead your shots in Halo 3. This only applies to Halo 3 though.

Never noticed that. I tend to panic a little in a fight.

Still a good thing to know. Thanks!

Use it?

But seriously how can you be finding the battle rifle on h2a difficult? Its literally the easiest BR in the entire franchise. The game practicaly aims for you and you dont even need to aim for the head to get a headshot…

Very confused. Maybe you lack thumbs?

If you want to be more consistent with your Battle Rifle.

1: Three bursts into the torso, two bursts to the head.
2: Well placed grenades strip Spartans shield then, one or two bursts to the head.
3: Use radar every 1-5 seconds if playing a none competitive game type.
4: Strafing (side to side movement) helps only in some situations
5: Practice :o

After this

6: Know your maps (Map call outs)
7: watch your team and make good positions
8: Power Weapon spawn times
9: Player Spawns
10: Practice :o
