It’s no secret that this game has had it’s issues since launch. I, however am a total fan boy and have been in the ‘give them time to fix it’ camp since November. It’s been about 3 months that I’ve been hyping the game and trying my best to keep my friends engaged so that I’ll have people to play with that I actually know and care to play with.
But after the issue with Rank has arose (Hidden MMR in social), I don’t know what to say any more. My 2 friends that were still playing with me both told me last night that they’re done. They can’t play a game that has a broken rank system. I mean, you can’t even play social matches without suspecting others of throwing the match to help their Ranked score.
All the desync, server fails, btb, challenges and cheaters were one thing. These have been incredible annoyances that I’ve been fan-boy-defending for months. But I just can’t defend this MMR issue. The whole game from Ranked to even Social just feels like a broken, fake rank, did we really win, piece of trash now. And that’s on top of all the other issues that the game has had.
My buddies signed off last night after reading about the MMR issue, and I don’t expect I’ll ever see them in Halo again
I’m still holding on to hope, but I’m struggling to do so. And now that all my friends have abandoned the game, my level of fun, I’m sure, will drastically decrease as well.
3 damn months, that’s it… and Halo is dead to my circle of friends. And I don’t know how to defend the game anymore… starting to feel like a moron for doing so.

It joins a long line of abysmal launches from recent big titles. You don’t have to defend incompetence and shady financial practices. My advice is to take a good long break and then come back to see if the state of the game has gotten better.

Good advice. My main issue though is that I’ll never get my friends to come back. I’m an old man… my friends are who they are, I’m not making new ones anytime soon. And we don’t play many games together because I haven’t owned an Xbox since Halo 5 was bad and they wouldn’t play it. I was so excited for this game… and they were too actually. But after finding out about this screwed up ranking issue, I just know they’re done. They’ll move on and never play Halo again. Just really bums me out that this game could be great. But it’s not.

You’re not the only one. We started as a group of 8 Halo vets a few months ago….it was like the good old days again! Thanks to how broken the game is, those numbers declined to the point where it’s just myself now…and it’s not much fun playing a game on your own that doesn’t even encourage the social aspect to meet new players.

Well your defending an incredibly flawed game.
Halo obviously has a loved fanbase with many people who have been playing since the beginning or joined later on (for me halo 3).
But unfortunately this loved fanbase was abused and taken advantage of.
You wouldn’t drink out of a toilet just because there’s a Halo logo on it.
Don’t enjoy a game just because of the title.

When Halo CE dropped, along with the first Xbox, I was a 23 year old Playstation head. I played Halo at a buddies house, and because I was a poor 7-11 employee at the time, I woke up the next morning and took all my Playstation crap to the Gamestop for a trade in.
Halo 5 was no good and I actually stopped playing, sold my Xbox and just played PC games.
The excitement I had for this game was not only because it was a new Halo, but because it was cross platform as well. After playing it with my buddies I was so happy because it felt like older Halo titles and we were all having fun hanging together and playing Halo again. But now all this crap.
I’m a Halo Fan boy man, I just am. I’m 43 years old with a wife and 3 kids. I still play games all the time, but my social gaming is almost non-existent at this point. I really want this game to be awesome. It’s basically the only game that would bring all my buddies online to play together in years. It’s just a shame it’s turning out this way.
You’re not wrong in your assessment of how 343 is treating it’s fanbase… I just hope it can be turned around.
Yeah, back then, Customs really made Halo what it is today, especially during CE and H2. Even now, Customs are where it’s at, where you can set Classic settings for BR starts, no sprint (110% speed), no clamber (90% gravity 110% jump), lower strafe accel (90%), no grenades on map. The settings are not the most intuitive, but it is what it is. Unfortunately, getting enough players is not the easiest thing to do without being in a dorm environment; although, now with streaming communities, this makes it easier.
I still think the game is bad, personally, BUT, there’s still a degree of fun here. And, I expect it to be similar to MCC where it came back after they fixed it. I’ll likely play this longer than Halo 5, anyway… if my 40 yo hand holds up, lmao
