How can I become a better Halo player?

So my friend (he is a blonde) and I got into a conversation about the Limited Edition’s of Halo 4. I told him that they were sold out pretty much everywhere and he hasn’t pre-ordered yet but wants to get the LE. He was like “They’re not sold out, you idiot”. I told him that some stores like Sam’s Club are getting the LE in stock again but he was just like, “You’re an idiot and know nothing about Halo”. I already have the LE pre-ordered, and he kept telling me that in absolutely NO WAY AT ALL was the Limited Edition not better than the Standard Edition. I told him a few ways how the Standard Edition could be better than the Limited Edition with a War Games Map Pass but he wouldn’t listen and just said, “You’re an idiot”.

I told him that he was falling behind on Halo 4 News, and he just kept calling me an idiot. Eventually I proved him wrong and he just frowned and said nothing. But a little while later he was like, “I could beat you up, you know.” He didn’t actually mean it seriously but he thinks he could actually beat me up. I found him very immature and I don’t think he could beat me up - I’m 6’1 and he’s only 5’7 lol. So anyways he was like, “I’ll beat your a** in Halo”. So that was the start of a challenge.

To prepare for my 1v1 and humiliate this annoying kid, how do I become a better Halo player? I think I’m pretty decent player if I take the time to make my decisions instead of just sprinting into groups of multiple Spartans with DMR’s. What gametypes will help me become a better Halo player? Any skills I should work on? I have quite poor sniper skills, but other than that I think I’m ok. Note: I let other people play on my Xbox Live account a lot so my stats are not the most accurate representation of my skills. I used to be able to DESTROY with an Assault Rifle and SMG but SMG has been absent for a while and the AR is quite underpowered (ex. Reach). I’m a very good plasma grenade sticker, Needler, and not too bad with any other weapon except the sniper.

Please help.

Play Skirmegedon till your eyes bleed and your twitch reflexes can nail the little -Yoinks!- in your sleep.

Never played Skirmegedon or know where to play it. Isn’t it the insanely hard gametype where you kill really smart and powerful Skirmishers? Never played it before but have heard of it. Wondering if it will help me become a better Halo player because that’s what my current goal is.

Well if you’re like me and lack the skill, you use your brain. Learning the maps and predicting what your opponent will do really helps

Start watching the MLG videos on YouTube and on the MLG website. See how the pros play. You’ll definitely pick up some tips from those. I sure did.

Practice makes perfect!

The biggest word of advice I can give is focus on staying alive rather than getting kills. If you focus on that, you won’t do any damage to your own team and the kills will come naturally!

Just keep playing it. You’ll get better sooner or later. You could also plateau as well… Well playing is still fun.

I do find it funny how it came down to a 1v1. That’s the Halo equivalent for “Meet me at the bike racks after school”.

just play alot, if something isnt working do it a different way.

Regular slayer and also don’t bite off more than you chew.

Know power weapon placement and try to control them. If you’re not good with the sniper still grab it.

Also don’t make silly mistakes like run 100 meters at him with the sword.

Primary color set to red, it does more damage just like red cars go faster.

I find Invasion a good place to get better. Have to use your brain in that mode.

I have good suggestion that has been helping me out.

Every time you die ask yourself. Why did I die? What did I do wrong? What mistake did I make? Just simple, general advice.

Technical skill is only part of the equation. Your map knowledge and Yomi capabilities (ability to predict an enemy’s movements) can squash a player who has technical skill but lacks a means to apply that skill.
You can actually train your technical skill in any gamemode but the higher the frequency and speed of the enemies, the better the training.
Map knowledge and Yomi can really only be learned by playing the MP gametypes instead of the coop. Where you can learn to recognise situations by watching Youtube, without actual “sparring” to implement those techniques you don’t actual build up reflex timing and instill conditioning (instinctive movements/reactions) until you use it.
Don’t always play for serious, sometimes play to learn. If you’re unwilling to play games where you purposely take risks then you don’t stand much of a chance to learn something before everyone else. The “best” aren’t the best because they follow the book, it’s because they’re constantly re-writing it (even if it’s ever so slightly).

Halo is like chess! That’s how I always see it…

For precision weapons, spawn in a ton of grenades and try shooting them out of the air after you throw them; like extremely dangerous skeet shooting!
