How can I avoid American hosts?

The #1 thing ruining my enjoyment of the game is that I get matchmade into a game with an American/Canadian host almost 95% of the time.

I live in South Africa so I have a MUCH better connection to Europeans but for some reason the limited matchmaking keeps putting me with American players. I have even begun to dislike Americans in general because of this.

I immediately set any Americans to “avoid” via their profiles, but next game I just get chucked in with more of them.

Do you guys seriously never sleep or never go work? Every hour of the day the game is full of squads of Americans going full tryhard (BR/Boltshot all day, every day). Thanks to my connection a BR is a 2-3 shot burst and then I die on my end of the screen. Add to this that I am trying to master the useless AR (A full mag is not enough to kill someone when host is USA)and I just hate playing atm.

What can I do?

Daily Halo 4 population is mostly below 30k…the frick did you expect?

When I play I keep getting paired with someone on your end at times too…but that doesn’t cause me to dislike any Eastern based people.

What you can do…is suck it up.

I’m not going to touch your little American try hard situation.

back out of lobby

In the pre-game lobby, before you vote, press X to make the roster appear. The player who appears at the top is the host. Check his Gamer Profile to what country he’s in. If he’s too far away, back out and keep searching.

Also, since you can’t tell who the host is when joining in progress, always back out of JiP games before you start.

And the easiest way to cancel a JIP is by quickly switching your lobby from LIVE to XBOX 360. Then change it back to LIVE and forge on.

For the love of god Vektor, don’t encourage the OP’s prejudicial post… I thought you were above that.

Excellent post O My God Gojiri… I honestly never thought of that as I’ve always used the sign out/re sign in method.

As for the OP… Halo 4 is an American made game, developed by an American company. Microsoft is also an American company that owns and manages Xbox Live - the means that brought you the ability to play with the games you love online. I strongly suggest you get over it or hang up the controller because you just sound like a complainer to me.

What game type are you playing for the Commendations? I’d suggest Rumble Pit. Wait to hear shots, and then run in for the clean-up. That’s how I got my Automatic weapons. After that, I think it was King of the Hill. Mostly just avoiding 1-on-1 situations.

You know OP, there is such a thing as different time zones in North America. People do sleep, but other people are awake. Kinda like it is back on your continent. So, before you start offending people on the internet (which will always bite you in the -Yoink- later) keep that in mind, keep your prejudices to yourself, and just do what the other people above me have suggested. The world would be a lot less complicated and hate-filled if people would just stop and think about their words for a second before blurting them out.

You know what’s worse than not being American and getting American hosts?

Being American and getting non American hosts.

This. So much this.

You realize we don’t like getting matched up with you either, right?

Yep. Sadly, everybody just likes to bash us for everything these days. Prejudice, sigh hate that crap.

It has nothing to do with “prejudice.” It’s based soley on ping when it comes to foreign connections. I can live with Canadian host (I’m Central US), but I can NOT stand playing on hosts from Mexico, South America, Europe, or Australia. Basically anything not in the US sucks for US players. It just isn’t fun, but should be a non-issue once Halo XB1 comes out using dedicated servers.

Halo 5 will have dedicated servers but it doesn’t really matter if the game is not good.

Irrelevant.

C’mon, y’all - ease up on the guy. It’s not like he said we were evil or something - just that playing when the host is across the planet sucks - which I think we all agree.

As to the “Don’t you ever work or sleep?” comment - that’s just frustration, but also in a little ways true. It’s not just the 4 time zones. There are many people who play who are in their late teens/early 20’s, and either go to school or work late hours, so they are on-line when most people would be asleep. Then there are those of us who are older who are awake in the middle of the night for whatever reason, and hop on for something to do.

The best I can suggest OP is to keep friending/preferring as many people as you can in APAC and EMEA, and hold on until Halo 5.

You can stop playing. That might help.

Love how you put that in quotes. Really shows how intuitive you are when you read.

I have played with hosts from all over the world and have never once had any connection problems. Ever. My hypothesis is that you are struggling a bit against players who happen to be American and are looking to blame something.

Never work or sleep? Are you serious? Americans are known for a diligent work ethic.
