How Campaign COULD have been better ( Gameplay, Story, features, tech trees, exploration )

A. FOB’S should have been larger and allow you to “add on” features that allow you to defend against periodic Banished assault waves that you have to defend against by making the game somewhat like Firefight.
*examples: Turrets, hardened walls, positioning AI on the walls with Squad commands

B. Flyable Pelicans. You have to watch out for Banished Anti-Air units so in Co-op a player could help out by using a Wasp to Clear Anti-Air Turrets.

C. Banished can replenish their numbers to try and take back their own bases, they can mount search parties to hunt Chief and you can mount assaults against Banished Convoys that are trying to resupply bases. Missions to Resupply groups of marines. Mission to provide air support for ODST’s and drop of a warthog for them while you reign fire from Above. Mission to capture Sentinels or breach a Sentinal factory which you can then use their tech to modify your weapons and gear. Variety, variety, variety.

AND add more Spartans you can interact with at bases that work with you to carry out important missions. Not just the dead spartans you find along the way which was a big lwt down and kinda ham fisting storytelling. I wanna work with Blue Team, Locke, Arbiter etc and do Offworld missions such as raiding a massive banished factory or dockyard or explore MYSTERIOUS facilities like the first mission as Arbiter in Halo 2.

D. The Ability to board Banished vessels ( capital ships ) while they land to refuel or by stealing a Phantom

E. Have more Huge Crashed Banished and UNSC capital ships to explore.

F. Being able to harvest Forerunner tech from nodes in Zeta and bring them back to a Crashed UNSC cruiser to do research on via AI that can upgrade your weapons and armor. ( Make it similar to the tech trees from Starcraft ) Example: Helmet upgrade that allows you to survive and extra Headahot from Jackal Snipers etc, or explosion damage resistance or the ability to carry two equipment simultaniously etc

G. Forerunner cities. Massive forerunner cities to explore without the ( BORING ) power seeds. Similar to castles in Dark Souls. There needs to be more to do in the world along the lines of an RPG: Activating a forerunner water supply, massive lightbridges to new Large regions ( not just local ), bypassing Forerunner locks with Keys like Doom or Quake ( Doom and Quake have good gameplay ideas that Halo should use and modify ) We should be able to invade huge, complex, multilevel Forerunner cities overtaken by the Banished and have MASSIVE, sprawling battles ( think like the mines of Moria scale from lord of the ringd )

H. More Locations. Shield Worlds, other Constructs, Human Colonies, shipyards, floating vessels, other parts of Zeta. ( Warframe does this PERFECTLY and so can Halo )

I. More Labyrinthian, Dungeon like levels. Halo CE did this perfectly with the Library, Maw, the second part of Halo CE’s second level and the beginning of Assault on the control room. We should be able to explore Deep Inside the ring in forerunner factories, repair stations, subsystems, research facilities and more. There should be big underground sections to explore like the underground pipes from the real world in the matrix. VARIETY IS KEY

J. Scarabs. How were they not even in the game ?

K. More stuff From Halo Wars. More vehicles. More bases like them. More variety. Halo Wars had tons of new cool stuff. The STORY for Halo Wars 2 was WAYYYY better than Halo Infinite. No cringy scenes like Infinite did with Escharums dialogue and the mega-cringe scene where Chief has pity for Escharum after he TORTURED the pilot ( not even plasuible, sorry )

L. DUAL WIELDING. ELITES. MORE EQUIPMENT

M. Large Scale Multiplayer Battles like Battlefield. Halo Warzone was a step in the right direction and I’d love to see that return or maybe mix it up with drop pods and multiteam, flyable Pelicans and AI you can give squad commands to.

Yes there is a lot of thing they could done with this game, I hope this will come in the next DLC campaign.

Totally agree about the scarab, I’m shocked they don’t appear

:grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: Leaving aside killing Cortana, offscreen and retconning Halo 5 you could have improved it by:

  1. Co op

  2. Bigger map and biomes

  3. More ambient quests and stuff to do. You go on AC Valhalla and Odyssey it’s not even funny the comparison.

  4. Banished can take your bases back.

  5. Marines can drive vehicles and follow you.

  6. Mechanics to organise fireteams with load outs and vehicles. I want to be able to make a Halo 3 vehicle mission fireteams with four Scorpians and go forth.

  7. Abikity to replay campaign missions

  8. Make the Sentinels a complete faction that is in the story and has three way battles with the Banished.

  9. Whilst there might be some overlap with Horde I do think some sort of wave attack mission that you can set yourself as a challenge in game would be an idea.

  10. Customisation for the Weapon so that she has an ability tree as well as your equipment.

  11. Dynamic weather

  12. Wildlife and monsters in the game that you can hunt

  13. More secrets and hidden areas off the golden path.

  14. More Banished unit types

  15. More weapons. For example the SAW or Light Rifle or some actual Endless Weapons.

  16. A version of Forge that can be activated in campaign and Co op.

  17. A small Swords of Sanghelios presence would have been nice. Think how you meet Brotherhood of Steel initially in Fallout 4.

  18. More grand set piece battles. Scarab.

  19. The Banished should have been in a position to actually fire the ring or do something beyond killing the Pilot. The stakes are kept very low throughout. All talk.

Some of these feel a bit unrealistically ambitious, but other ones I really agree with. Aside from obvious little things like letting marines drive and having scarabs, this game would have massively benefitted from ongoing territorial conflict with the banished; having them attack/retake FOBs for instance.

Imagine if this game took place 6 months earlier, fighting the losing battle against the Banished, losing your footholds, etc. That could have been a much more exciting game in both narrative structure and gameplay.

It would be cool for a DLC to revive those six month of losing battle, starting by the fight on the Infinity. The destruction of the biggest UNSC ship deserved more than a little cinematic

To be fair, we don’t see it destroyed and people question this in game.

I think the book Rubicon Protocol is going to handle those 6 months.

We don’t know if he is destroy, but we know he lost the fight, and sincerely, the Infinity losing the fight deserved well better that just a little cinematic. Instead of see the master chief killing one or two banished, it would have be better to fight them ouself

The story really wasn’t all that great IMO. There was really no motivation driving a lot of what happened other than our own love and appreciation for Cortana. But the campaign itself has some strange beats to it and doesn’t justify a lot of its moments like echo 216’s reveal is totally unearned and out of the blue. Nothing leads up to it. It’s just the most meh story ever.

And Halo has completely lost that “Let’s save the galaxy to rock and roll” feel. Even in the case of reach, which is a much grimmer story, it still retained that sense of space operatic rock n’ roll. It’s absent here and just becomes mushy, melo drama.

What’s even stranger is that they make out as if the Banished and Endless are these incredible threats we’ve never seen. But all the flashbacks make it pretty clear Cortanas was ridiculously more powerful and dangerous than they were. So it’s kind of incongruous when you realise, “oh yeah, that crashed Guardian could kill those six Dreadnoughts in a few seconds”. It’s makes it difficult to take them seriously when they’re mostly all talk.

Also in one of the most recent books, the Banished are trying to stop the rings being fired by the Covenant. So ugh, plans change? It’s also essentially the same story we saw in Halo Wars 2 of Atriox wanting a Halo because reasons.

Like compare the six Dreadnoughts you see to High Charity appearing in Halo 2 with thousands of ships. Even Jul M Dama in Spartan Ops and Halo 5 had more ships. But they’re presented as the greatest army in the galaxy.

Yeah it’s odd that they make out like you failed to beat Atriox. He never beat me. I wouldn’t be caught out with only a pistol.

Infinite feels like a course correction on the “power creep.” At least I am glad it doesn’t have the guardians… but I do hope they are careful with the endless. I just hope they don’t go back into a halo 4 or 5 type story.

The covenant/ Banished and the flood feel like good adversaries… just add new units to fight more often to keep it fresh. I am afraid the endless will be like the promethians and be annoying and make halo feel like another generic space shooter.

Yeah but the power level of the Didact and Cortana/Guardians is to explain why they can’t win a conventional war and so our heroes have to step up. It also means you can do dramatic things like the Mantles Approach rocking up to Earth.

There’s no reason the UNSC couldn’t defeat the six :scream:Banished warships over Zeta Halo that we see in a straight fight. The UNSC should easily beat the Banished in a conventional war. It’s like why the New Republic couldn’t beat the First Order; because the plot requires that not happen to keep the underdog tone.

Well the Flood ARE a power creep faction which is why they aren’t easy to put in any story. They’re so dangerous you have to put a ceiling on what they can do; like in Halo 3 and Halo Wars 2 which is to the detriment of the story. It’s also predictable. I mean Zeta Halo is disabled and in the middle of nowhere; who cares if the Flood escape?

With the Endless, some very big talk as I said, but if it’s literally just squids with pew pew guns who are immune to Halo so want to fire it. Sure, that’s keeping things grounded, but then you can’t exactly take the “more dangerous than the Flood” seriously.

More generally the stakes are being kept very small. It feels very much like Halo Wars 2 where it’s just a side story that doesn’t change anything.

ABSOLUTELY ! I completely agree with most of those

A. Implement challenges into story mode, have it be an alternative way to progress battlepass or at least more ways.

B. Have our multiplayer spartans be our co-op choice, with elite, another chief, etc as an option further incentivizing cross play between story and multiplayer.

C. Look for alternative means of monetization and customization outside of power armor and weapon skins. This could include a simple rework of Forge mechanics at Fob’s. Look at fallout 76 camp system, it’s not the best but it would make each base feel more lived in and home.

D. Add custom FoB options. An area has to be thoroughly secure, boarder at least one or two owned premade Fob’s. Players can either earn or buy more slots for these custom ones.

Now I know not that many people will be too happy with the idea of monetized building materials being made but if they are making assets they could also rework some to make variations. For example instead of just olive drab camo equipment if someone prefers a desert tan or snow they could either find it in game, do a challenge, or for more advanced items that don’t alter the game and unfair ways the shop. For example, one can have multiple power armor displays where they could show their collection if they so chose. Others may just make a small armory and have their personal armor on display and some of the different displays could be tied to things outside of the game such as pro teams thus being monitized.

Some of the premium fob designs could be something like a down scarab, an old elephant or mammoth that doesn’t run but can be modified in different ways. Maybe having hard points and watches that custom items can be put on? Have holograms and vid screens displaying dead or wanted HVTs. Memorials that you can sorta customize for fallen Spartan. Maybe an ONI recon shuttle with little offensive capabilities so lore wise its just a fob that hovers in place so you can drop pod/jump down to a make shift camp. Etc etc.

///////

Co-op additions that need to come! Small two+ seater aircraft not just for combat but travel. Two wasps or banshees are fine but imagine a atmospheric version of those booster cycles spartans used in legends. Or a crewed vulture (yes I know its a dream lol)

Multplayer Spartans as part of the Co-op experience would be AWESOME as they could be like a drop-in unit from the FOB’s that assist chief on his missions !!!

For Example, Chief rescues a group of ( still alive ) Spartans and at some point in the game those Spartans are the Co-op players that roll with him through campaign missions.

1,Found one wreckage of Infinity as a base or HQ/or just provide one part of Infinity to explore and rescue
2,marines and spartans you found can be save as a resourse, they can be called and reorganize as fireteams to command, not only follow the player like a fool
3,Weapons and vehicles calling are limited, you can collect them on the map
4,A Data Base can collect data of creature and forrunner articles not only voice
5,flood( Despondent Pyre said Zeta halo has containment facility)
