After looking through all of these posts following the gameplay demo, I feel like truly this community is imploding on itself, and it is so ridiculous. Everyone has something to complain about and its just crazy to me.
Most people hate the graphics and/or art style, some praise the art style and defend the graphics, some defend the art style and hate the graphics. Some love the grapple mechanic but hate sprint, some hate grapple and hate that there is no thrust mechanic. Some people love the inclusion of the Banished and think that they are the perfect new enemy to revive Halo, and others think they are forced and that the story of Halo 4 and 5 needs to be finished.
All this diversity of thought would be fine and actually healthy, but everyone is hell bent on their version to the point that I really just feel bad for 343. I thought I was hard on them going into this. My personal hopes for Halo Infinite was for a return to Halo 3 style gameplay and art style, and story wise to reboot the franchise but in a way that maintains 343’s humanization of Master Chief and still wraps up the events of 4 and 5. I did not think the reveal was perfect. I was really disappointed to see sprint and clamber return and thought some of the new weapon designs were rather uninspired. Graphics need some work but that was not a big turnoff for me, and I like the art style.
I understand that they did not show my perfect version of Halo Infinite, and that is alright, because I can find good aspects of what they did for me personally, such as what looks to be a removal of smart scope, return to classic control scheme, faster base movement speed and making sprint slower, as well as the return of H3 style equipment. I wish we saw multiplayer but I am excited to see what they end up doing with it, fingers crossed for potentially no sprint arena but I am open to it.
Ultimately what I want people to try and realize is that this is one of the most polarized communities ever, and 343 is clearly trying to find a way to bring back some classic Halo feels while not alienating their modern audiences. It is good to be critical of stuff you did not like, but try to focus on what has been done, and offer genuine alternative options, because the majority of the stuff you guys are willing to die for would effectively destroy a large portion of the community. The game can still be a good Halo game even though it is not made entirely for you, and I think as more is shown, this game will develop an audience of classic and new fans who enjoy it, and it already seems to be more faithful to the OGs than 4 and 5. So can we just be a little more open minded?
Well said! I for one am still cautiously optimistic about everything we’ve seen, given that it is such a small amount of gameplay that I don’t think yet is too indicative of the final product we’ll get in November/December - 4 or 5 months is a lot of time, and especially if this was an earlier build I’m sure massive amounts of things have already been developed much further than what has been shown.
With regards to gameplay, even though I’m not a fan of all the mechanics introduced or revived from some games, I still think the base gameplay looks fun and engaging; and I really appreciate that 343 are emphasising more of a sandbox this time than in their previous titles. Honestly I’m still looking forward to this game a lot
Honestly, as consumers we all deserve to have an opinion. Many of us deeply care about Halo and the direction of Halo Infinite. These people will provide meaningful and candid feedback. Then there are those who aim to troll and incite others (not the real fans). Don’t let this group drown out the people with honest and fair feedback.
Also, making a thread that is “complaining about complaining” is not exactly going to get everyone on the same page, lol. I know where you are coming from, but understand that a 20 year old game series is bound to have fans divided on a variety of topics; it is nothing new.

Except that I am not complaining about complaining. I think complaining is good. I think extreme close mindedness and animosity towards those that disagree with you is bad. Of course franchises like Halo are going to be divided, but because of the drastic changes Bungie made in Reach, and 343 made worse in 4 and 5, Halo is uniquely divided, and I feel like a lot of people do not realize that.

Well I mean what do you suggest we do about it, cause from where I’m sitting a perfectly good franchise has been sent down the chute the past 8 years with there being nothing any old fan can do to stop it. It isn’t really anymore complicated than that with fans being divided or anything. Nobody cares what the fans think, that has been made surprisingly evident by the existence of Halo Infinite. The player retention and statistics over the course of 343s reign don’t lie. I honestly think the state of the community is just a symptom. I mean Halo Reach changed stuff sure but Halo 4 cranked it to 11. People say “oh yeah there was massive outrage over halo reach too” Well I was there and I never saw a backlash to change like this. People always complain. Its just now Halo’s totally busted.
Every FPS Halo game released by 343 Industries had a feature or two missing.
- Halo 4 did not work in split- screen mode on any multilayer map that used the advanced lighting technique due to a severe drop in framerate and players would get matchmade into said maps anyways thereby creating frustration. - The $60 game MCC pretty much was a coin toss if it would crash or not while playing it for an entire year after launch. They even had to cancel HCS cup # 1 due to the game not working properly. - Halo 5 took our beloved split- screen mode away entirely and released without Forge mode. The community is divided because we feel let down. All we want is a Halo game with the working feature set layed out by Bungie and we aren’t getting one from 343 Industries. That’s not to say millions of people haven’t had loads of fun with those three aforementioned games though; they have and I am one of them. It’s just we diehard Halo fans have metaphorically had our guts punched and we’re hurt by it. Like how EA killed off Battlefield Hardline prematurely along with its entire development studio even though its multiplayer was lit as all hell. You can scope my clips on my Xbox profile. After that I vowed to never buy from EA again and if 343 Industries wasn’t totally backed by Big Mula Microsoft they would have probably dissolved after Halo 5 just like Visceral did.

They have about thirteen weeks left aiming for a Thanksgiving week launch.
Personally I don’t think we are quite as divided as it seems I just think we have 2 separate communities since mom (bungie) and dad (Microsoft) split up but hey 2x Christmas (halo and destiny).
Many of our older siblings feel like step mom (343) is trying to replace our mom. But the reality is she just wants to make us happy and keep the peace so dad doesn’t get mad at her.
I think we have a vocal minority that gets louder as it shrinks because they fear the end of the old times that they loved.
Entropy is inevitable.
Change is inevitable.
We must adapt or be left behind.

“Debatably worse” I had no real issues with 4 in fact I loved a lot of things implemented in 4.
But I digress I whole heartily agree with you about the divide.
Until I saw the demo I have had no real reason to come to this forum it’s not something I do. I posted on the halo wars 2 side of this forum during its release a few times that was it. But when I came here I was so shocked and still somewhat am at how badly it’s divided over something as simple as sprint? What I thought was a good normal progression for halo, is seen by 50% as an abomination and sin against humanity. It wasn’t other features like a bad plot or the new designs for the enemies looking less intimidating or even how now if you -Yoink!- too many times after a kill you get booted from multiplayer and punished. I’m still struggling to understand especially because I’m fairly sure I am very late to this specific debate. Because it has devolved into bashing opinions, verbal/textual attacks and straight arguments to what seems a long time ago.

sometimes, not changing is what holds entropy at bay. localy, entropy can be fought. rediscovering older truths sometimes is the best adaptation.

No they must give fans with they want or lose money.
Are people this tone-deaf? 343 has released disappointment after disappointment you can’t expect the community to be happy and in unity when each Halo release for the past 10 years has seen a drop in popularity, major launch problems, lack of content, and drop in quality.

Fair point… But we have limited control over what changes around us and infinite will be what it already is and I feel like shouting at it isn’t helping. Consistent discourse and open dialogue about problems paired with ACTUALLY PUTTING YOUR MONEY WHERE YOUR MOUTH IS is what causes the changes a community wants/needs. This means even when it hurts a little. Most seem to stop before it gets uncomfortable it seems but that is just my opinion.

I completely agree that 343 has gotten us to the point. My main disagreement is that Halo Infinite is an example of them furthering this decline. While there are certainly issues with it, and its not a perfectly faithful to the original games creation, at least to me it is definitely a game created with the spirit of trying to recapture what made the old games great, while still struggling with the issue of appeasing modern fans. I don’t think we have seen enough to determine if they have done that successfully yet.
That is my whole point. Just to have people be a little more open to hear more because as of now we essentially know little to nothing about the game. We don’t know what the overall story will be like, how sprint will even function, etc. Halo 4 and 5 are certainly the most to blame, but Infinite is not going down that same path.
Because every Halo has played different and every one is going to have their favorites and then think the next one needs to play just as their favorite did… I for one am one of the rare fans of Halo and have enjoyed them all. Each title brought good and bad changes. But the changes are part of what makes Halo cool to me. It’s not the same game boxed up and shipped out. You have to learn new movements, weapons and tactics. I have a good feeling about the story line and mechanics of Infinite. Modern movement mixed with map pick up equipment sounds great to me. Graphics, sorry but to me Halo has never really had top of the line graphics. If a slight downgrade in graphics means better overall game play I can accept that, and it’s worth it.

I do not expect the community to be happy, but I think cautious optimism is a good thing here, and we should be praising the things 343 say or do correctly when they do them. I am not saying we need to scavenge for good things about them. 343’s track record with Halo right now is just terrible, and there is reason to be concerned, but when I hear 343 talk about strong inspirations from Halo CE, wanting to ground Halo back in its roots and stop chasing industry trends, and then I SEE them bring back the old art style, remove smart scope, return halo 3 equipment, and once again focus on improving Halo’s sandbox rather than fundamentally changing it (leaving grapple hook as an equipment pickup in MP rather than a base ability), I think that should receive positive responses. I think there has been a lot of positive responses, but the people who have issues with the reveal seem to focus only on those issues. Most of the people complaining about last gen graphics (and rightfully so) seem to ignore all other aspects of the game. Do these people play for just the graphics? I would think they would have something to say about some of these other changes. I can criticize the graphics without saying the reveal was a complete failure for that reason.

Well I do hope things improve for it, I mean I could nitpick the fundamentals of its new art style forever with gripes but that would be pointless and opinionated. It’s just I hear stuff like this being a live service game with things like ray tracing not even implemented at launch and that makes me wonder how will lighting and the game as a whole look. Everything I’m hearing is setting this up to be a train wreck and when I see the official promo screenshots I’m just like oh no. I think this may be receiving patches and release broken for example. I agree with you that openness is good, it’s just you don’t wanna be too open as 343 has had god knows how many chances with botched releases at this point with key features missing. Like people were saying this is the last straw when H5 released and the MCC came broken and now people are like wait till you play infinite. I feel like we’ve been holding off judgement on 343 forever.

Yeah I am rather worried about the live service stuff too. I really hope the game does not launch in an unfinished state. If it does, 343 have truly lost any semblance of hope I could have for them. As of right now though, I have heard and seen a lot of good stuff about the gameplay and story direction of this game (at least for me), and I will wait to see what happens with the coming months. I don’t think its fair to say the game is a failure yet.

I personally care less about sprint and bloom being in campaign. It’s multiplayer that it doesn’t belong. But I’m just going to wait and see. I’m glad it’s on game pass is all I can say.
