How are we eight months into this game and the Scorpion still controls like nonsense?

How hard is this to fix? Every other Halo game has never had this problem? Push upward/forward on stick to make tank treads drive forward, push downward/backward on stick to make tank treads drive backward.

Why does the tank have to control like absolute nonsense? Sometimes holding backwards makes you go forward, sometimes it makes you go backwards, and good luck knowing which will be which at any given time. it’s insane.

It’s come up a few times, I brought it up before as well. Yeah, it’s great that the tank feels heavier, but controls suck, if it was kept to still feel heavy but controlling it was easier it would be great. Was playing H5 the other day and tank was so much easier to move, same as mcc, I often get stuck in Infinite just trying to co-ordinate the tank to go and do what it needs to

Are you using LB/RB to help steer?

… wut?

Is that a thing? Are you telling me there are actually six pedals when there are only four directions?

I still don’t understand why all verhicles feel like total crap compared to H5.

It’s never been this way in previous games? The Scorpion has always been infamous for randomly being impossible to steer. It got better as time went in, but it’s always been pretty janky.

The ‘use alternative vehicle steering’ option in settings (I forget the actual menu text) helps a ton with Scorpion steering, but messes up other vehicles imo lol

H5’s vehicles were really smooth, even the banshee is far better than Infinite, always find it’s a bit chuggy

? RB let’s me get in and out of the tank, just using paddle sticks

Its like they looked at the wonky scorpion controls in Reach and asked “how can we make this even worse?”

Yeah I came to the same conclusion. Kinda useless setting

I assume it’s meant to make vehicles steer similar to other popular games, but it’s honestly been a long time since I’ve played a game seriously besides Halo, so I’m not sure

Yeah I dabbled a bit with this setting in the tech test but couldn’t decide which was worse. They just should’ve copy pasted H5 and maybe modified it at a later point in time.

That way, the Warthog would’ve been not entirely useless in the campaign.

The Lazer-Back or Discohog however are funny as hell, I give them that.

There is some option you can turn off that changes/“enhances” stiring on Vehicles. It makes the controll of the scorpion somehwat barable but all other vehicles will then only drive exactly towards camera.

It is fascinating how they managed to fumble Tank-controls. Like… you have the lower part, indipendent and not locked to the camera and the turret. It is so easy but nooooo, time to invent the wheel again and make it worse.

Enable the new driving controls, it handles better than any other Scorpion once you do.

Cant relate. I think ive only gotten in a Scorpion once. Theyre hard to get in 24 player matches. Theres a 4% of getting in one per BTB

What are you talking about?
Halo CE it was odd to steer because of the speed of it being faster acceleration and top-speed than what you would expect.
Halo 2 and onward, it was slower but controlled a lot smoother.
But going from any of the other games to Halo Infinite, they made it go forward in an odd way. I tried to round a corner, but because my camera rotated too far to the left to target someone; my tank suddenly started going in reverse DESPITE the direction inputs of my joysticks.

The problem with the Scorpion in Infinite is that it moves forwards in the direction the camera is facing, instead of Up for Accelerate, Down for Reverse. If you turn the Scorpion to aim, you’ll always drive the direction you face, if you hold Up, and that’s the stupidest steering mechanic they could have picked. Up to Accelerate, Down to Reverse. It should be THAT simple. Literally all they need to do is change the line of code that lets it drive Up in Reverse while looking behind. It should have been fixed months ago. Camera should not affect Scorpion. Steering with the camera is for Ghost, Mongoose, and Warthog, for dual stick steering.
