The whole Human covnenat war was about finding the Halo rings which is is a good reason to title any halo pruduct during the human covnenant war Halo, but now that thats all over whats the use of halo now?
I know there are artifacts on the halo’s but that just makes the rings sound like some sort of side story, and besides there are other forerunner worlds with more artifacts.
What use is halo to us now?
(Note im not asking for links to your fan made halo 5 scripts)
There are theories going around about the rings being able to compose beings, so that could come into play.
Since the Janus Key has been found, the real-time locations of all Forerunner technology in the galaxy could be known to us (including the remaining Halos). All we have to do is get the other half from 'Mdama, and we know where four more Halo rings are, along with more shield worlds, and, if we’re lucky, the Greater Ark.
If everything goes sideways, the rings could be activated again to take out the Precursor/Flood threat, but that would make the story a bit too circular haha.
Also, the Human-Covenant War was mostly about humanity struggling for survival. It started in 2525 with the attack on Harvest, and the first Halo ring, Installation 04, was found in 2552, a few months before the end of the war.
They don’t have to be. The Halos are an amazing concept from a story standpoint and have been at the center of the first trilogy’s plot, giving the series its name, but do you really want to shove in places they don’t fit?
Why do they have to be an anchor weighing the Halo plot line down? Their story has more than sufficed and unless there’s some deeper layer or meaning their return will be pointless and unnecessary. My point: they don’t have to return, unless the story 343i crafted takes them there.
As for reasons/ways the Halos could return: there is the Halo=super-composer theory which I quite like (it makes more sense since the FR had the technology and believed in the Mantle) but there is something in Halo 4 which few people give the right amount of attention to:
The UNSC found Installation 03’s Index!!!
This means they may have already contacted 049 Abject Testament and that they have the power to activate it will. Soon enough, ONI might decide to Master-Builder it up and crush Covenant species with it.
Another point, and probably the most important, the log beside the Index said the Halos Indexes might have another purpose and seemed to hint that this purpose is achieved with all the Indexes together. What could this mean? Who knows…
They don’t have all of the indexes though. Remember, there is no Installation 04 and that index was used to fire 04B. However, it may be likely the Greater Ark may have created a 30k Kilometer one to replace both destroyed 04 versions.

Good point. That’s what I was thinking, ONI is obviously trying to wipe out the Elites, maybe that’s just what they need. If that is the case, I sense an Arbiter reunion.
I think others have raised some good points thus far, but I can’t help but feel they may be of some importance, even if they aren’t going to be the race against the clock to prevent them firing like past games. Spark in the Halo: CEA Terminals mentioned how their were plans to prevent the rings from being misused, so with ONI’s actions at 03 I’d have to say those plans may be put into effect.
I have faith in 343i, they’ve been doing an amazing job. I would like to see the other Halo rings in the rest of the Reclaimer Trilogy, and the other Monitors too. I feel Installation 03 will play a role in the future, as it already has been mentioned in Halo 4, plus its Monitor is the only other one revealed aside from 04/05.
Well, if 343i plans to bring in a direct involvement by the Precursors soon… the Halo Rings are the only weapons capable of damagin Precursor technology.
Precursor technology is believed to be based off of Neural Physics, and the Halos target stuff associated with that: Nervous Systems.
That shows that Halos will have to be used in one form or another.
Also, Installation 07 is of importance. Besides being one of th emost interesting, it has the most history that we know of. If we are going to learn of the Precursors, dangers of the Flood, and Forerunner times… 07 has it. Home to several deactivated Graveminds, the home of Mendicant Bias and the Primordial for some time, the “Palace of Pain” Flood testing facilities…
With the dark setting Halo 5 is supposed to have, Installation 07 is a good way to do it. The ring’s past and history was very dark… and was believed to be the final resting place of Faber.
