How do spartan 4’s get their specific armor?
Is it because they excel in something?
Is it because the UNSC appointed them to be a certain specialization?
I know it sounds foolish but so they just “pick” their armor? (Probably not this)
I was wondering because some armor’s are for specific roles like the operator set, or the EVA set. And then there’s Mark IV, Warrior etc. I noticed how majestic squad on spartan ops has all specialization armors. And then Sarah Palmer has a scout set. Is it because she is a decent sniper? A good scout? What exactly did she do to get that armor set?
I know this is a lot of questions but help me out.
I’m just speculating but I imagine in their case it probably does have to do with what they specialize in. It makes sense since 343 put all that work into creating specializations with unlockable armors that have descriptions of their purposes.
This belongs in the Universe forums. Don’t worry we don’t bite.(Unlike the people in Halo 4 forums)

Hm, I didn’t even think of that. Thanks, ill tell a mod so I can get this beautiful thread the proper attention!
Rumours floating through the corridors and Mess Decks of the Infinity say that if you’ve been a good Spartan, brush your teeth, eat your veggies, and put your Spartan Points under your pillow at night, the Armour Fairy will pay you a visit!
More serious answer : It’s not really clarified, but on one of the inserts with the Limited Edition, there is a message from Palmer that indicates Spartans pretty much have freedom to choose their armour, but that they must first prove they are worth the resources.
They are awarded armor through specializations. Primarily. Much like the actual military Spartans are broken up into branches, RECON, Scout, Soldier, Wetwork, aand ect. All the armor belongs to one group or another. Like Wetwork and LOCUS are both made for Assassination and stealth operations with Stalker as a subgroup of RECON.
I’d elaborate but Im making dinner.

Well that seems logical. Sounds like my post too… But you posted first. But I like to think that, to prove they are worth the resources that they’d be trained in the subsequent grouping or division/cell
Im gonna guess a combo of what their role/specialization is as well as requested pieces.
Im sure a spartan can request specific sets or pieces of armor to further aid their combat effectiveness.
I’m pretty sure they are given a set of armor depending on their skill trait but tenure and experience allows for requests further along the road. Much like Jorge in Reach
Well based on the sheer number of armor variations in the Gen 2 family, I simply assume that a Spartan IV just has to come up with any idea for an armor type and the UNSC will just make it for them.

I thought Jorge just stuck with his Mark IV and customised it? He definitely kept a variation of the Mark IV helmet and had it updated to work with Mark V (Much the same way Spartan IVs can use Mark VI and will soon be able to use Mark V) because it’s stated that the Grenadier helmet is a variation of Mark IV.
It’s confirmed that they can choose it after they’ve proved themselves (Until this point, they wear Recruit armour), though they’re urged not to choose their armour purely because of aesthetics.
In essence I meant, he was given the standard set of armor but later on chose to customize it as he saw fit.
I’m pretty sure they earn it through their Spartan Rank (SR), because even the XP system in this game is canon.
