There are an alarming number of ways in which 343 attempted to build a successful game by mimicking COD:
loadouts
grenade indicators
killcam
ordnance drops
point system, instead of kill number
Spartan Ops, comparable to Spec Ops
instaspawn
Halo 4 nerfs good players, and tries to make the game interesting to new players with easy kills and unlockable abilities. In reality, 343 has ended the unique and competitive experience that was Halo.
This “evolution” is just an attempt to outsell COD.
Bungie is laughing their heads off, as 343 attempts to outperform COD by imitation.
These features (1-7) are not exclusive to COD, but COD is outselling Halo. In 343’s attempt to beat COD, they just integrated a bunch of features from the top selling game. Ridiculous.
Please,
just go outside and take some Friends to play CoD. If you dont like Halo, just leave and stop thinking that Games have borrowed/stolen Things from Others…
(Between CoD Black Ops 1 also borrowed the Theater Mode from Halo3,just sayin)
1) loadouts
Yay customization. What’s so terrible about this? It’s better than Bungie’s really half–Yoinked!- attempt at loadouts in Reach.
2) grenade indicators
There’s already an audible queue for when a grenade is near you (the tink of a frag or the charge noise of a plasma), now they’re’s just an visible prompt to accompany it.
3) killcam
These dont show up in every gametype for one, and two, whoopy do a killcam shows where your opponent is. It’s not like the game doesn’t already have a bunch of other things that show where enemies are too.
4) ordinance drops
Again, player ordinances only show up in specific gametypes. I’m alright with the standard ordinance drops, the old weapon rush setup grew old and stale.
5) point system, instead of kill number
Hooray rewarding teamwork over people’s urge to make their e-peen bigger with their K/Ds.
6) Spartan Ops, comparable to Spec Ops
This implies that Spec Ops was an original idea. It wasn’t.
7) instaspawn
You have a fun habit of complaining about things that arent universal across every game mode.
Game developers are incredibly dumb.
They’re constantly trying to attract this “COD audience” but they don’t understand that unless they slap the title Call of Duty on the cover it’s going to get ignored. And of course, the original userbase is going to leave aswell.

CoD was not the first game to use most of those features! The evolution is an attempt to get more players into Halo (a better game). What game developer/publisher wouldn’t want to sell more copies. HERP DERP!!!

Yep. The game has become a COD clone in a sea of COD clones and 343 has taken a crap on the lineage of the game which was a throwback to the power weapon/map control style of the Doom/Quake and Unreal era.
Now it’s just a “hey, me too!” game that copies and, like every other game, gets tossed aside when the “source” material releases a new iteration.
Population has already dropped by half since Monday’s midnight release. I see more “Black Ops 2” on my friends list than ANYTHING else.
By removing the unique aspects of Halo which made the franchise successful in opposition to games like COD and Battlefield, all 343 has done is made it easier for people to ignore Halo’s copied gameplay in favor of COD or Battlefield.
Next Major Nelson update, Black Ops 2 will be #1 on Live activity and it likely won’t relinquish that spot for a long time. I’m betting Halo 4 drops down several spots over the next few months, even with the holiday boost.
Because 343 should know why I didn’t buy the game.
The game is going to change, each Halo was different from the last. But when there are more than half a dozen things mimicking COD, you know there was a clear design goal to imitate the more profitable game.

Get over yourself. There isn’t much one company can do to add onto the FPS genre, it’s really how they implement these systems. Since Halo basically set the stage for modern shooters so you can say COD stole most of their stuff from bungie.
P.S. don’t get me wrong, it’s a fun game to play here and there and it is well designed but I’m sick of all the fanboys who claim how revolutionary COD is when they spoon feed you the same game every year.
I am in no way saying COD came up with those things. Timesplitters 2, Unreal tournament, Duke Nukem, Battlefield, all have similarities to Halo and COD. All FPS have some things in common. Critically, Halo incorporates almost all of the aspects of COD that I mention above.
But 343’s capitulation in these areas is disappointing.
The Halo games’ strengths were in their unique gameplay, not in imitating a more profitable idea.
I would like to reiterate: I AM NOT A FAN OF COD, hence my problem with this game.

Bungie sold out to MS too with loadouts etc with Reach. They had to. Halo is owned by MS. 343 is owned by MS. MS wants to make money. Videogames are a business. COD makes the most $. MS wants some of that $. Solution? Make Halo 4 like COD because COD is popular.

funny thing is that none of the things you listed have actually contributed to the deminishing skill gap.
