if 343 doesn’t want to add social games i recommend a Spartan school like playlist.
in this playlist you wouldn’t rank or gain points of any kind (even kill stats). it’s simply a way of getting back into the swing of halo after being away for a while. like the working man I now am. it’ll help me especially. its a good way for noobs to start getting better before they think competitively and stops stat horders from fragging too many noobs just to boost their stats.
sorry english is bad, me sleepy.
what do you guys think?
There are quite a few underhanded players that would go into such a playlist despite being completely up-to-date at Halo, just to farm kills off of weaker players and boost their own K/Ds. :\
yeah i mentioned there being no stat gains at all in this playlist so people don’t have the option to farm and they would be deterred.

OP said kills wouldn’t contribute to kill stats
I’d go in there right now if I could. I haven’t played in over a week and am now staring at my Xbox, afraid to ruin my stats in MM…
EDIT: Not to mention, they could spread the no-stat tracking into other playlists (Looking at you Action Sack…)
I like this but I agree with DavidJCobb. It could be manipulated if not done properly. In Halo 3 there was a similar Playlist you had to go through to be able to play the rest of the Playlists, but after reaching a certain rank you couldn’t access the Playlist

OH, right. I must’ve missed that.
Even so, I can still see skilled players ducking into the playlist just to grief newbies. :\
I thought Halo 3 had something like this? It has been a while but I remember seeing a new profile created and there was a playlist temporarily set up for the noob player to get his/her feet wet and rank up before joining the main populace. Maybe I’m mistaken, that’s just what I remember.

yeah the halo 3 one is where I got the idea from really just a bit expanded on. i agree it can be exploited but i’d play a few statless matches to get back to what i know.

Thats how i felt when i picked up my gears 3 again after taking a 4 month break.
I had a K/D of 1.6 but i couldnt seem to get my groove back and got brought down to 1.2

Halo 3 had it, but IMO it wasn’t really helpful at all. When I was new, I learned more by playing with (and getting beaten by) experienced players in Squad Battle than I did by losing to slightly-less-new-than-I-was players in a crappy Snowbound-only playlist.
It wouldn’t be bad, but I see it being exploited in some way.
I really like this idea, and hope to see some form of it in Halo 4. Great Thread Sharuda!!
I mean you can even think about it as a new change in tactics, if you wanted to try a new AA out or support package. without having to worry about your stats would be great.

Perhaps if you get over a certain rank, you can no longer play it.
Bring back Snowbound 4 player FFA!
Well technically War games is spartan school cuz it’s combat simulation

That happens in every playlist due to broken True skill, if True skill would work and Halo sometime could move away from crappy p2p, this wouldn’t be an issue. Since Halo 4 is p2p we all know what to expect, but we can at least hope True skill works somewhat decently, preventing such things.
You can learn the basics of the game as well as standard gametypes, try new tactics or even new weapons/perks/combinations if a forgiving environment. Winning might be fun, but if you get no stats and can’t brag, people won’t stay for long anyhow. For those new to FPS, or even just Halo, it could be good to give them a “warm up” before you throw them into MM where the experienced players know every corner to camp, ever power weapon spawn and every exploit.

But that’s only against AIs and only with a given mission objectives, nothing like ordinary multiplayer but more Firefight with objective. Campaign is more a “learn how to play” thing, but still it’s just scripted evenents, corridors and no change unlike multiplayer.

Easy solution. Just get Spartan School TrueSkill to match your highest skill from the other playlists.
I approve OP!
Better name - The Shooting Range.
Basically, no other weapons but your precision weapons and some snipers. No PODs, no AAs. You just go in there to warm up your strafe and your aim. No stat tracking, no win conditions. Freely able to drop in and out.
Do it 343. Do it. Officially sanctioned “Octagon” = brilliant idea.
