How about a Demo?

It does publicity, we can play the game early, and it convinces fellows to buy the game.

Why not?

343 isn’t putting out a public beta, they’ve already announced this.

He said Demo, not Beta. Halo Reach offers a Demo which can be downloaded and played but I believe it was released after the game already came out. Microsoft should fork out the money and release one for Halo 4 as well so they can sell it to those who aren’t sure yet.

Halo Reach Demo

I loved the betas for 3 and Reach, but I think this game will do just fine without one. It will help make the game feel fresher when we first get our hands on it at release.

The reason they are not making a demo is because, it’s more trouble and work than its worth…

Problems with public demos/betas:

1. Modders can hack into the coding and find all of or most of the armor, weapons, levels, vehicles, etc.

2. The Ending of the game could and most likely would become leaked.

3. It takes money, and time, just to make a demo/Public beta build. And the money, time and resources take away polish time for the final game.

4. People might not like the demo, which makes then not want the game. Then word of mouth gets around and then everyone hates it… Its risky. The plan to get more sales could backfire.

5. It makes the real game not as exciting.

Guys, a demo and a beta isn’t the same.

  1. Just like a normal person can google.

2.A demo is a PART of the game, not the game, so there is no reason.

3.They got microsoft on their backs, that is not a problem.

4.Most people will like it, so i don’t really see a problem.

5.That’s not true.

Demo> Beta but mainly because the Demo is using the final build whereas a Beta is often buggy and the community starts suggesting changes (mostly awful).

Of course, i rather just have an early copy of the full game deliver straight to my house with a year of xbox live gold. I desperately need the latter :(.

Since a demo is unlikely, this is just wishful thinking.

Yes, I am well aware that he said “demo.” But then he also said this:

So clearly, he didn’t mean a demo but rather a beta. To which my point stands - there is going to be no public beta.

Sure a demo would be great but its not going to happen.

The Demo for FIFA Soccer 13 was released on 9/11/2012. FIFA Soccer 13 official release date is 9/25/2012. In other words we get to play it early.

Most demos come before the game.

> Why not?

The effort involved in making a demo is very often not repaid by any of the positive results of releasing a demo, that is why alot of games companies do not make demos any more.

I could see a demo about released two weeks before release. Using two multiplayer maps and one half of the first campaign mission. Maps: exile and haven. Gametypes: infinity slayer and classic slayer on haven and ctf and oddball on exile. Mass effect 3 had an excellent demo similar to what I described and it really made me interested in the game and I wound up buying the whole series.

yup, some demos come come a lot later. like in CoD’s case, “just and example” it usually takes a year until the demo gets out.

but in other game’s cases, like madden 13, it comes out a little earlier to give you a taste of things to come.
