when I use the word “comprehensive,” I mean exactly that. Currently as the modern bronze-champ ranking models stands, it is misunderstood by most players who play the games and is the source of much frustration by players of all games that use it.
By definition, this cannot be called a comprehensive ranking system because there are just so many players who do not understand it just by playing the game. Sure, you can go tell those players to do some research online or maybe watch a fifteen minute Youtube video that explains the system in depth, but why should they? My opinion is that if a player needs to do all that research just to understand something in the game, that is a flawed system, no matter how good it actually works.
The fact is, a clear and transparent ranking and skill system in a video game will go a long away and there will be a lot less players rage quitting because of things they don’t understand. Once again, I’m not complaining about the functionality of the current ranking model used by most competitive games, I’m complaining about how non-transparent it is and how confusing it can be for the average player, the same average player that the game’s population and livelihood depends on.
SO, here’s the question: Can Halo Infinite introduce a ranking system that is both functional and fair while at the same time being clear and easy to understand?
If anyone has any suggestions on how this could be done, I’d love to hear them.
I don’t like the current system because it is boring thematically but how is it confusing?

If you look through matchmaking feedback sections of any game forum that uses the bronze-champ system you’ll see lots of threads talking about how the rank system is broken and makes no sense. Example:
Threads complaining about a silver or gold player matching against a platinum or diamond player.
Threads complaining about the inconsistent rank raises and drops when winning or losing.
Threads complaining about being matched with bad teammates who apparently don’t deserve their ranks.
Although I’m sure there’s many valid complaints that can be investigated and so forth, the main problems people have are issues like these.
I agree about the theme, too. Halo used to be the only console game that used the 1-50 ranking system and it was pretty much known for it, yet in modern day Halo, they’re just gonna use the same model as every other competitive game? Like, they could at least put a skin on it of some sort.
i do agree it is kinda boring tbh. do like your ideas!

halo 5 has the same raking system as 3 just skinned differently.

Incorrect. Halo 3 does not have placement matches. Halo 3 does not have seasons. Halo 3 would match players of similar rank near each other, unless there was just someone in the party with a lower rank than the rest, unlike in the bronze-champ system where the system can place a silver player against an onyx depending on the situation. Saying that they’re the same exact thing is just false and easily proven wrong.
And even if it was the same, why give it the same exact skin as League of Legends, Overwatch, Gears of War, Rainbow Six Siege, CS, and so forth? Halo should have it’s own unique ranking system, or at least have a ranking system that doesn’t look exactly like every other game.
1-50 ranks were the best.

while it does not have seasons the experience system is the exact same after placement. Just presented differently.
You are also countering yourself. You want it to be easier to understand but claim that it being the same familiar ranks as other popular games in the market is a problem.
Higher tanks matching against lower ones was common in h3 once it’s population started dropping. 343 just killed it’s population day one when they decided to release less than half a game to scam users into thinking reqs were justified.
It’s actually clearer than h3s 1-50. Because well, h3 wasn’t actually 1-50. Iirc it was 1-75 But stopped telling users anything above 50
I would like an overall EXP rank like Halo Reach and an overall TrueSkill rank like Halo 3 as well as individual playlist ranks. And detailed campaign and firefight stats and well, any and all stats. The service record should be very comprehensive.

I didn’t counter myself. I simply expressed the fact that so many people have a problem with this ranking system no matter what game it is. Go ahead and look at forums of other games that use the Bronze-champ system and you’ll see so many threads of people expressing the same issues and concerns over it no matter what game it is. If that doesn’t say there’s something fundamentally wrong with the system, I don’t know what will convince you. The fact is, there are thousands of players who hate the system and quit the games because of it. Whether the system works as it intends to or is accurate as a ranking system can be, people leaving the game because of it is a problem.
my solution was expressed already, just make the system more transparent and easy to understand since that seems to be the main reason people have a problem with it. What exactly are you not able to understand about this? Just because you think it’s easy to understand, doesn’t mean it is. You have to take into consideration all the other people who play the game, and just because you researched it and read up on it, doesn’t mean others have to also. Not everyone has time to look online to understand something that should already be explained to them in a game they paid full price for.

Military EXP rank, overall trueskill, and individual sounds about right. My main point is not leaving hidden ranks like they have in the current system. I feel like every player should be entitled to know where he or she truly stands in the ranks.
