How a Halo Battle Royal can be Amazing

If they make a battle royal, it needs to feel like a celebration of all that Halo is. It can’t be a basic copycat of other battle royal games. I believe it’s easy for halo because they have all they need at their disposal.

You can drop from either ODST pod and preset your drop on the map, or you jump out of pelican and use thrusters to choose where to land. The map is a halo ring, with a huge variety of terrain and landscapes, including some mp maps. We can have a area with snow, another area perhaps desert like, another area jungle and forrest, and underground bases and tunnels interconnected to other parts of the map. Halo rings are known to have different seasonal areas. I think it should be multilayered by having underground, on ground, and above ground areas. They can make a few covenant ships and unsc ships flying above the map, potentially Midship being a part of the covenant ship(example of implementing and expanding the original maps). You are able to fly up to it via banshee, pelican, or other flying ships, but you can also access a teleport to go there if you don’t have a vehicle. You can dive from these high areas and thrust down, also potentially being able to shoot other players if you jump off after them.

Speaking of teleporters and halo, implement them into the map for a fast travel system. Make power weapons/vehicles spawn in every so often and alert the players that it is coming in. Show a countdown where the weapon spawns. Players must fight for power weapons. Potentially add a currency you can use to buy vehicles and power weapons as well. Currency can be gained by kills or objectives.

Objectives are easy to implement. They use what they already have. Capture a flag and deliver it to get credits or intel, carry a skull (oddball) and survive with it. Everybody knows where you are while you hold it. Implement king of the hill where if your team wins and captures a hill you get credits or intel. It will also encourage strategic team encounters and force players to not be campy all while feeling like a mix of everything Halo.

And the most battle royal part, the closing circle. I think you make it a flood induced gas, where within the gas a mass amount of flood are coming in. Gas doesn’t cause damage, but shows the line where flood are taking over. If you are in gas the flood will be relentless, very strong, and come in numbers. The deeper you go the more there are. You can go back into the storm to reposition where you are or escapee a team, but inevitably will be overwhelmed by flood so you can’t stay in long or safely.

The ending is maybe the halo being destroyed to stop the flood infection, and your team being picked up by a pelican and making it to safety. You can buy back dead teammates for credits. I do think a post death one v one to come back would work, but I also don’t want it to seem like a rip off of gulag from Warzone. But I also think 1v1 small arena styled fights work so so much better in halo.

These are some ideas. I know people are against a br in the community. I am a lifelong halo fanboy, and I honestly think halo would feel great in a battle royal format. But it has to take all that halo is, and find a way to make the br experience pay homage to every game type. Something that pays homage from what’s before, introduces a new scope to the sandbox, and that allows a narrative and story to the mode. Also allow a forge/community br map that fans make or can tweak monthly or bi weekly. 343 can take the best and most creative of the community and it can be a truly evolving map. That would be an amazing way to combine forge and battle royal so the possibilities are endless. I know it’s a long post, I have been thinking of them for a while. I don’t want the original competitive style of 4v4 to not be the main focus, but I do think halo has potential to have the most creative and fun sandboxes for a 100 people to play in. We have 10 years of infinite, and there can be so much to build on. It would be a true evolution of the series by taking BTB, all the objective game types, and the lore/campaign feel into a unified experience. If you have any input I wanna hear your thoughts. Negative or positive!

They’ve been done to death like advanced movement. Please, let the trend die. I want to finish a match in a few minutes, not hours. Conceptually, it is very possible, sure. But just because we can does not necessarily mean we should.

I’m really not a fan of Battle Royale but if it’s done to appease the people who like them & even introduce new players to the franchise I’m fine with it, so long as achievements aren’t tied specifically to the mode.

I like BR’s and would love to see a halo style some day, some matches of WZ last 20+ minutes already, most BR matches I play only last 30 or less so I dont think it would be impossible to accomodate. Still, I also agree that its not really core Halo so it makes sense that it should be reserved for a side project and not the main course with Infinite.

I’m not a big fan of BRs and honestly I would prefer that they spend their time working on things that the majority of the community would love to have.

My thing is timing and if it would be to late for 343 to join the market. You figure with what they got planned for Infinite and the resources it would take to develop a game and bring it to the market consumer interest may not be there or gamers loyalties may already be with a certain game/franchise.

Fair points, really.

Agreed!

I think as long as they keep 4v4 as their main squeeze and love, that it would be beneficial to the franchise. That way the core fans are happy. But Halo also has always been known for its diversity. Whether it’s campaign, 4v4, big team battle, ctf, oddball, king of the hill, firefight, forge, infection, even griffball. The list goes on. I think more so a battle royal can really just be a giant sandbox of halo madness with aspects of every bit of halo thrown in. It would feel like 4 player co op combined with big team battle and objective based play modes. Variety never hurt halo. Just brings in more crowds to support and bring light to the franchise imo. I also totally get why fans want to preserve what halo is at its core. I personally still have my heart in 4v4 arena matches, but I can imagine that a battle royal could be a huge love letter to all the franchise if done right.

I get that. But given this halos lifespan is 10 years, I think adding variety to the lineup would benefit the game. Would totally get it though If the games life cycle was a 3 or 4 year thing. Even 5.

I actually think right now is a prime time. And that’s because of how bad the state of warzone is. On top of which it is already most likely going to have the support of a lot of bigger streamers which nowadays plays a big factor.

It would be cool see a Halo Battle Royale. However that’s definitely not a normal Halo game type.
