How a Combat Knife could work as a weapon

Though the concept of a small combat knife in a fight between cybernetically and genetically enhanced super-soldiers seems laughable, from a gameplay perspective, there is a place I think they can serve (and even with a mote of believability.)

It stems from the Assassinations in Halo Reach and Halo 4:

  • Allows you to perform Assassinations from any angle, not just from behind- faster regular melees- Fastest switch to second weapon

Sounds cool. It would be a good rival to the Energy Sword.

From my understanding, the MJOLNIR shielding reacts to high-speed projectiles, ie. plasma, ballastic, so a knife assassination is suitable in my book.

Legendary Weapon: A-239’s Kukri (for want of a better name)
Description- A knife owned by one of the most psychotic Spartans to wander the galaxy- what else could you want?
Pros:
Allows you to perform Assassinations from any angle, not just from behind
Melees do 150% normal damage
If killed by a melee attack the killer automatically receives a melee from the holder of the knife.
Cons:
Slow switch to second weapon
Sprint speed reduced by 10%
Each attack requires 125% normal recharge rate.

The thought of being assassinated by a guy with a knife hiding around the corner (like they always do) is tiring to me. It’d pretty much be another sword. Although itsamystery97 had a pretty good idea with the lower speed which would allow someone to get away easier.

That would be very cool. I love this idea.

Holding the knife wouldn’t reduce your sprint speed. That doesn’t make sense. Otherwise good job.

I could see it working like this:

-Faster movement and animation speed
-same lunge as normal melee
-instakill with a short stabbing animation like a mini-assasination.

Not as good as a sword, but with thrusters getting in close would become a risk v reward game.

Not exactly before halo was even 1st person bungie experimented with a machete as a human counter to the energy sword, not entirely sure why it was cut from the game probably because they couldn’t find a suitable way to implement it without it being a clone of the energy sword. Personally I would like to see a human counterpart to the sword as its long over due it just needs proper thought into how it’s put in game so it’s literally not just a clone of the sword, seen some interesting ideas on here especially the one about Emiles knife being a legendary weapon.
