How 343 should have handled DLC

Make it a search option. Similar to how you used to be able to search for best connection.

BOOM! Problem solved.

I would have rather preferred just all available DLC dedicated playlists, but then again a search option would be very nice and possibly more useful.

Too bad there is no filter at all in Halo 4…

but yes connection searches, DLC searches, skill searches, talkative searches, etc.

all of these would be greatly appreciated.

That would clutter the already cluttered UI

Indeed.

Do you guys think it would be best to have the playlists set as All DLC required and then an option to turn that off or as it is now and add an option to search for DLC maps (like OP suggested)…?

I’m just wondering which would help boosting DLC sales.

The Matchmaking Filter automatically has a preference for people who have the same DLC as you and for people who have a good connection to you.

Making people manually select such filters is redundant because people would naturally want such things, hence it’s automatically included.

It does not make it a necessity though and will choose people who don’t have the same DLC as you or will choose a bad connection if the search times are too long, otherwise people would take so long finding matches they might give up on Halo and move onto other games because they’re fed up with the long wait times in the lobby.

The main problem is the low population meaning the automatic filtering usually gives up and just puts you into a match with people who don’t have the DLC/poor connections because the population in various playlists is so low.

Reach had filters which preferred people in your region/preferred good connection but they didn’t make it a neccessity either - just a preference, again, to keep search times acceptable.

Halo 4 does this automatically, but because people don’t see the manual filter option they assume 343i didn’t think to put it in when they actually did.

One way to solve this and ensure you’re matched with people with the same DLC as you would be to make it a manual selection again but for the player to acknowledge they want it as a necessity in the search criteria - however, I think you would have very long search times due to the low population.

I read your post and all I do is laugh m8, The population has dropped down to 30,000 players, that’s the same freaking number as Halo Reach right now and you think the matchmaking filter is the way DLC should go…
Here’s an IDEA how about make all DLC required like in Halo 3. I have all the DLC for Reach and Halo 4 and I have played little to none of the maps because of the MATCHMAKING FILTER. As far as I’m concerned 343 has set off every Halo in their galaxy and killed a great game. If I asked you 2 years ago how would you kill the Halo Empire your answer would have been IDK, now it’s very clear all you have to do is build a custom team of people picked to build Halo games and put them all in one room and let them go to work.

You’ve mis-understood my post then.

I was responding to the OP, they seemed unaware of the automatic filtering.

I didn’t say that’s how I think DLC should be filtered - I think more playlists with it required would be the easiest way to match people up but I don’t think that will happen as it will drive the people who don’t have it away, especially if it were required for the most popular playlists like Team Slayer/BTB/Snipers etc.

The population is already low enough, we don’t need to drive more people away by telling them they can’t play in their favourite playlists unless they spend more money - not a good idea in my opinion.

True but as we all know the filter almost always gives up and pairs you with non-DLC players.

I think COD Black Ops had it so it would 100% only pair you with players of matching DLC, and if that was causing you problems you could hit START and turn your DLC off.

IMO thats a better solution than you having to cross your fingers and hope that the filter cares as much about the DLC as the player does.

EDIT: I realise I pretty much summarised your post but just reiterating it as an opinion

I think that would be a good idea too - try it as a neccessity rather than a preference and if it’s taking too long for you you can deselect it.

I read your post and laughed how you put “m8” instead of mate

One things certain, every way they’ve handled DLC so far has had at least something go wrong…

Playlists are such another part of how bad DLC has been handled.
