How 343 can please everybody!

Main thing I see in the forums is that there are two difference halo crowds, those that like halo 1,2, and 3 and those who like reach and 4. Pretty much old and new generations. Just wanted to see some ideas on how to please everyone… If that’s even possible…

They can’t, its impossible to please the so easily divided Halo community.

You’re going to need a strong story that pleases the lore fans like myself, yet still make it possible to get into for more casual “viewers”. Multiplayer is tougher, but I believe if 343 gives the community the most expansive customization options for custom games and Forge, the most ideal multiplayer could be created if the base multiplayer is unappealing.

From what I have seen over the years after the launch of Halo 4 is that most people like where the story is heading and that the main problem is that many people don’t like the “COD-ification” of the Halo multiplayer with additions like ordnance drops, loadouts, armor abilities, etc. From the information 343i has been sharing with us about Halo MCC and Halo 5, it seems they will try to include both arena style multiplayer and the Halo 4 style multiplayer going forward to try and appease both crowds. If true, this is great as it will make most everyone happy but at the same time will split the population in half.

like already said, it is completely impossible since almost everyone got his own ideas how an ideal Halo has to look & play to please him in every way.

I like the original trilogy and Halo 4. Halo 4 is up there with the best of them in some places, but has a lot of problems in others. Personally I think 343 will continue to improve as they gain more experience.

To echo other comments here, it is impossible to please everybody. The best you can hope for is to please the majority and keep learning and improving which I think 343i will do

Pleasing everyone’s taste; very fortuitous. But who really knows and appreciates the Halo universe, sbe appreciate its ancient and subsequent deliveries.

Regarding the Campaign, it doesn’t really matter what 343i does as long as the plot is good and doesn’t contradict existing lore. Halo 4 easily had the worst Campaign in terms of gameplay, but since the plot and character development was really good, no one cared about the gameplay.

Regarding multiplayer, trying to please everybody is exactly what caused Halo 4 to fail: 343i wanted to make it feel like Halo for one group of players and make it play like CoD for another group of players. The result was that neither group of players got what they wanted, so neither group of players really liked Halo 4, hence its abysmal population. Halo 5 multiplayer needs to decide which audience it wants to target and put all of its focus on that. Other types of play are what custom game options are for.

Its simple. They cant.

impossible just make it a hybrid of the old and new

Most people just want the old multiplayer

I wouldn’t say that the gameplay doesn’t matter in Campaign but only the story. I would actually say it quite hurts a good story when the gameplay sucks, yet good gameplay can overshadow a weak story.

H4’s Campaign was to me like reading a book with a good story which is poorly written, in the sense of language and rhetoric. Even though the story was good you cannot really inspire yourself to experience it again because the writing just not makes it “entertaining” to read/experience.
I really liked H4’s story, I think it is the best a Halo game has had so far, but the weak gameplay (what I will consider everything except story) made it really hard to fully enjoy it, to get fully sucked into it, at least for me.

When I think about how often I’ve played through Reach’s Campaign even though I think the story is the worst, especially since it contradicts at all kind of canon ends, and how rarely I touched H4’s Campaign even though I liked its story the most, it is because the gameplay of Reach’s Campaign was really entertaining and H4’s was not.
Reach had a really great atmosphere, the theme of the story flowed really well into the gameplay, your tasks in the levels actually had a relevance, hence what you did in the game had actually a purpose and a sense behind it (unlike H4 were I often have felt like mindlessly shooting my way from one cutscene to another running through pointless corridors), it had a decent enemy AI and overall a nice variety of good and entertaining battles/levels.
All that was lacking in H4 though.

Therefore I think the story can be as fantastic as you want but when the story is just not really fun to experience, what you do in games mainly via the gameplay, then the Campaign as a gaming experience has actually failed in my eyes.

You can never please everyone. Someone always hates something about a game no matter how much effort you put into it.

“the scars on master chiefs armor is not deep enough” to “this weapon is under/over power. fix it now or I will never purchase a game from you again.”

A) It’s impossible
B) I wouldn’t look to these forums for any kind of consensus or agreement. Heck, I wouldn’t look to any internet forum for such things.
C) 343 should do the best they can to learn as they go from what worked and what didn’t. They’re always going to try new things.

They’re not always going to get Halo right. I’m cool with that. I don’t expect every Halo to outdo the last one. Exponential growth like that is just… unrealistic. But for every flop like 4, there can be a winner like CE.

I liked all of them! I have my favorites of course and Halo 4 is one of them. I think 343i did an awesome job, I was worried but they’ve really come through. Way to go guys.

I think there are just some people who would never ever be satisfied with what 343i was going to do because they aren’t Bungie.

I think Halo 4 had some problems but I don’t think any of the games were perfect regardless. Really like what 343i did with the campaign and the multiplayer.

Disagree! Don’t think Halo 4 failed at all.

Please everybody? I imagine a Halo 4 style “Pro” vs “Infinity” gamemode system, just incorporate that into playlists, and you have your answer.

I’m afraid pleasing everyone is simply impossible. Although I think the the the crowds are divided into either “story” and “multiplayer” or “bungie” and “343”.
