When simply examining the sales figures for Halo 4, everything looks on par with past installments of the halo franchise. Both you and I know that that number means nothing when you look at the standard population of the game 4 months after launch. The game was practically dead already at only 20,000 unique players at peak times. This was due to many factors, but I’m going to lay down my personal opinions of what 343 did wrong and should improve on in their fall release, Halo 5: Guardians.
Let’s first look at how many copies of the game might be purchased, so we can get a vague idea of how many people will be playing multiplayer at launch. 2.7 million people participated in the Halo: Reach beta back in 2010 and over 9.4 million copies of the finished game were purchased. Coming off the overwhelming success of Halo 3, these large numbers aren’t surprising. In comparison, only about 1 million (that was the most accurate number I could find) players downloaded the Halo 5 beta for Xbox One. Based on those numbers, it would be accurate to assume Halo 5 will sell about 3 to 3.5 million copies, making it the worst selling numbered Halo game in franchise history.
Despite this low number, this game can still be a success. If the game is marketed and received well, it is possible to sell anywhere from 4 to 6 million copies on Xbox One. But if 343 and Microsoft want to produce those kinds of numbers, they are going to have to kiss the fans -Yoinks!-. The most important thing (besides fun gameplay) to keep people playing is variety. Halo 4 failed miserably at this. The base 12 maps and the awkwardly set up playlists may have been interesting at first, but they got old quickly, and there was nothing to keep the casual gamer playing when COD Black Ops 2 came out the following week.
Halo 5 needs to have the most robust multiplayer on Xbox One when it launches in Q3/Q4.
File Share Search needs to be up day 1 (We still don’t have it for MCC -_-)- Forge Maps need to be in the playlists day 1 for variety.- There needs to be a dedicated Action Sack playlist within the first month of release.- If there is an episodic story (Like Spartan Ops) it needs to be hella engaging.- Make sure none of the above is broken as -Yoink- ^-^343, I expect your “Arena Multiplayer” to be a big success, but don’t try to ride it into the ground. You want to keep a large population interested in your game? Expand your multiplayer suite even further than in the past. Don’t limit yourself to the constraints of past Halo’s, and I think the game will be a success.
-better armor/armor customization(based on the beta it was probably the worst armor of any halo game)
-plus so much more
I do agree that this will probably be the worst selling halo ever and probably the worst halo(mutiplayer). Hopefully the full game is way better than the beta. IMO halo 4 mutiplayer>halo 5 beta and that’s coming from a guy that hated halo 4 mutiplayer.

Well, considering the poll for Halo 5 buyers vs non-buyers is at 60% to 40% respectively, the majority of people unhappy with the mechanics won’t be making a purchase, which is why the sales figures I calculated are so low. (3.5 million is about a 4th of Xbox One users today and that number should grow larger as we get closer to Halo 5’s launch.) Therefore, most of the people that buy the game will enjoy the mechanics relatively well. 343 is not going change their mechanics much from what they decided after the beta, so fans that are going to buy the game should focus on things that they can still effect.

That stuff is definitely on my list as well, I just forgot to mention it. I personally felt that Halo 5 plays a lot better than the crap that was Halo 4 at launch (It got slightly better after 6 months with their weapon tuning update) Of course that’s just my opinion. I had some fun times with friends during the beta.

first a couple things. Halo 4 never even had a beta and it managed to make 9.4 million
““Halo 4” Makes Entertainment History with More Than $220 Million in Global Sales in the First 24 Hours”
I have no doubt that halo 5 will sell well. Once they start marketing the game i dont think there will be any issues
343 has learned alot from their past mistakes. and this will only fuel to better themselves and their products
What will make or break the sustain ability is the Fans, And while the Vocal minority on this site will lead you to believe that halo 5 will fail. There are many more who are excited for halo 5. even a place that’s so filled with hate has overwhelming stats for fan that are supportive of halo 5.
I’m in no way saying Halo 5 will fail or be a bad game. 3.5 million is still a substantial amount of game copies. Even if many of Halo 4’s players want to buy Halo 5, they’re not going to. The install base on the Xbox 360 in 2012 was much bigger than the install base on Xbox One in 2015. Even if half of all Xbox One users buy the game, that’s only around 6 million copies.

If they made a slim halo 5 edition Xbox one then that would probably sell so many console during its release and Christmas time. Even I would buy one lol.
