Hover type vehicles should hover over water

I know a lot of you that were on the bungie.net forums when reach came out and heard this idea and a lot of you really liked it because it would have been awesome to have races or even bumper boat type games where you knock people over and flip them to get them to get knocked in the water. And if any of you know the science behind hovercrafts, you know they would be able to hover in the water since the disperse the air pressure in equally to stay above water but if they got turned a bit they would sink right away since the covie hover vehicles lack the sides so if they did get knocked over they’d be done for. There probably would be pros and like getting around an island map better or cons like having a little bit of a harder time to move over water.

Also to people how will say something like “but then they will get out of the maps on MM” we all know 343 will have barriers like before where the safe zone will only allow them not so far out of the maps. So we have nothing to worry about.

Hover vehicles (ghost, spectre, wraith and revenant) possible the prowler (i do believe it hovers on a hover assisted sled)

I may be wrong but I’m pretty sure the ghost could hover on water in Halo 2. I don’t see why they shouldn’t include that ability.

actually ur right they did. now they have more of a reason to bring it back.

If they allow hover over water there has to be water capable vehicles for the UNSC to use to make it balanced.

well i believe in the stories they do infact have UNSC hovercrafts, ships and subs. would be nice for some water battles but hover floating vehicles are good enough for me. i just named the covies because we all can get a better description for those that dont know which type i was refering to.

Hovercraft.

I’m not saying it’s a bad idea. I’m just saying if they do it that way, they need to make water capable vehicles for the UNSC. hovercrafts, boats, amphibious vehicles, maybe even a jetski.

well from what i do know. the common thing with human vehicles is it is always a 2 man team for them mostly. unlike covie vehicles like the ghost and reverant and some on most covies only need one person while most ones in the game and boos for humans need a driver and shooter. but i notice Halo reach they kinda made it less needy for a gunner in the SP. so if they do make a UNSC i might be 2 manned like a mongoose.

and now you know why it will never work…because it requires teamwork.

It would be a good idea, as long as it didn’t go farther than that. Trust me, boats would NOT work in Halo. Even Bungie admitted it, and I don’t see how it would be any different now.

This, they were planned for Reach as shown by this but obviously cut

Thank you, T110. Even if I don’t always agree with you, I can always count on you for logic and reason.

First of all, hoversleds and fictional alien vehicles are COMPLETELY different and operate on different principles. Hoversleds work by riding an air cushion while Covenant vehicles most certainly do not as there is no skirt to contain it. Air is a gas and reaches equilibrium fairly quickly so changes in air pressure below the vehicle would dissipate almost immediately.

Covenant vehicles on the other hand appear to hover due to electromagnetic repulsion and the lightning arcs below the vehicles would be evidence as hovering a several ton vehicle would require massive energy output we aren’t capable of so seeing arcs of electricity likely wouldn’t be that farfetched.

Hey Sgt Fegus you bojo! Hover vehicles don’t work on water. Unless you’ve got POWA! Heehahahahaha!

(oh please someone tell me they get that reference)

Wow. That necropost. And amphibious vehicles would be an awesome idea. And teamwork isnt difficult to come by.

Two words, Longshore and Dinghey. I had hours of fun with barely-functional scenery objects because I could use them as boats. Develop them as viable part of the sandobx you have a whole new realm of gameplay (one where vehicles can play a very different role than they do now and thus create a whole new and meaningful set of gametypes, maps, and experiences which is just what Halo needs right now. Think of what space combat would do for Halo and reduce the overwhelming problems of scale that more or less prohibits it from ever taking shape in multiplayer.)

Simply put, Bungie was wrong.

I get the feeling Covie hover units (not flying ones like the Banshee and Phantom) would not work on water.

The energy resistance of earthen terrain is significantly higher than water, which is highly conductive.

Covie land vehicles all use electro magnetic repulsors to hover, not air pressure like a hovercraft with a skirt that contains lateral air flow.

That being said, the water would not provide enough EM resistance for the repulsors to perform a successful hover.

Instead of repulsing the water’s surface, the water would conduct the EM current and would essentially emulate a state of free-fall.

That still doesn’t mean it wouldn’t be loads of fun if it did work.

Who brought back this dinosaur?

On topic: Sure, it would be nice to see some vehicles that would hover.

> And amphibious vehicles would be an awesome idea.

Maybe the mongoose could turn into this.

Q: Is it true that a dinosaur won’t attack if you hold a tree branch?

A: That depends on how fast you carry it!And with that let’s run away from this extinct topic before it consumes us all.
