I have a curious observation and question about some players I’ve encountered in MM. I was told that all MM games are on dedicated servers, but I’m finding that in certain games there are players whose weapons do more damage/have greater distance, very similar to host properties of previous games or custom games. My connection is pretty decent, 50up/50down. Is it possible these players have a better connection or geographic location in relation to the servers? I simply don’t understand how I can BR battle with a kid and place more shots and even see them hit shields, yet he can like 4 shot me clear across the map without any difference in method (ala kill cam).
My best guess would be geography, but I also have had similar experiences in other games that said they had dedicated servers. Even on customs in classic H2 yesterday I sniped a guy across sanctuary 3 times in the head, shields flared 2 times and then the third one finally gave me my headshot. I understand that he was likely host in that game, but that shouldn’t happen with a sniper at moderate distance. Definitely very frustrating.
I saw a message in matchmaking that said something along the lines of “reprovisioning host connection.” Not an exact quote but why would there be any talk of host connection in relation to a matchmaking lobby if they are all on dedicated servers. I do not get it.

Same happened to me. In some games i was able to 4-shot everyone on the map. was a feeling like i am the host of this game. in other matches i couldnt do any real damage to other players.
I appreciate the quick responses guys, sad to hear it happens so commonly, but good to know I’m not imagining it haha.

But they`re probably not live at this moment.
connections are basically what they were 10 years ago at the moment. 343 wasn’t meant to be bringing back ‘-Yoink- connection anniversary’ with it as well.
Hosts have amazing connection others have god awful connections
