Basically just curious as to why half of the single digit players host boot players on the opposing team every game. What ever happened to sportsmanship or just having a competitive game with no cheating?
I don’t play loads of arena but like to dabble with it when I want some competitive games and have gotten a pretty good rating. However I now am getting host booted every other game as soon as the cheating team starts to loose. The worst part is that it is by players who I actually thought were good (HellRazer, Vyrull, zFur, etc) and now realize they just cheat.
Everyone complains about the arena population sucking and search times being so long and you have the host booters to thank for that, as well as some other settings aspects. Who wants to play a playlist where 50% of the games are illegitimate?
Basically what this mini-rant comes down to is that is there anything that can be done outside of the reporting system in game? I have heard this is completely ineffective, so are there other options or lengths to go to to get these people banned and out of arena?
This makes me angry I wish I could go through the game and take away peoples right to play reach. I have never experienced this but I know how you feel and that would really piss me off too. hopefully that will be fixed and the banhammer will be more strict on boosting
host booting not boosting. I could care less if someone is boosting they still have to beat me in a fair 4v4 to win. Using an outside program to manipulate other players networks and kick them offline so the game is 4v2 or 4v1 is a different story.
If we were in a client - server network configuration, where a central dedicated server acted as the game host, instead of someone’s XBox acting as a host in the current P2P network configuration, we wouldn’t have host booting - it would be gone.

You’re not getting host booted you’re getting hit by a DDOS attack.
Because DDOS attacks can’t be traced, there’s no hard proof to pin anyone down. The only time people have been banned for it was in MLG in Halo 3 and those bans had to come from the head of the league after multiple offenses.
Also MS takes no responsibility in banning them either. They’ve basically relinquished responsibility to peoples ISP’s because they aren’t manipulating XBL, but rather directly overloading your own personal internet connection.

So essentially it is a battle that can’t be won… hopefully i will at least keep my top 3% this season and then never play arena again. Thanks for the educated and thorough response to my question though. It is rare to find that on forums these days haha.

Yeah!
Instead people would just hit the server and end everyone who is playing on that servers fun!

Host booting is an accepted term for DDoS attacks.
Reach’s bannhammer does not have anything that catches booters, simply because its pretty pointless when the game is 99.999% social. As for filing complaints, lol those don’t do anything.
Just quit playing Arena, the settings are terrible and have been for a very long time. Not to mention the Arena system is flawed in itself and just bad.

I’ve been hit offline multiple times in Doubles, Snipers and Team Slayer.

So have I. I didn’t say it didn’t happen. I said the game is 99% social, Bungie didn’t see a reason to have systems in place to catch cheaters, simply because it would seem pointless in social.
Sportmanship and dignity died in the online gaming community when everyone obtained over sized egos along with wanting to have “great” looking stats so everyone would be in “awe” and “envy” the stats wishing they had stats as “amazing” as the person cheating. Ahahahahahaha XD
> Why I never play arena. Whats the point of gettin cheated?
Not to be rude or anything, but you generally only run into cheaters at and around single digit Onyx. If you were to maintain a Gold you could search for hundreds of games without running into booters.
